Spring Vanilla Level Contest? y/n

Since we're not going to have another Community Contest until July, I thought I'd bring up this idea.

For those who don't know, a vanilla contest would mean that you have to design a level using only elements contained in the stock version of SMBX. This means that you can do whatever you want as long as it all fits inside one .lvl file (i.e. no custom music, graphics, etc.). Not only do I think this would be a really fun way to come up with new ideas (since creativity is best expressed within limits...right?), but it would also be a lot less heavy on our processors! Or at least on mine.

A month would probably be given for design time (likely April). Do you think this is a good idea and/or do you have any suggestions?

YES

*ahem* anyway this is a fantastic idea! This would be a lot less stress for the holder of the contest as there are no zip files to extract. For the judges, we could nominate users and hold elections, so we get ones that the community is happy with. And we could make an episode to feature all the levels! I even have a prize that I could donate (it isn't money or games, but it's something)

seems too soon tbh

i'm fond of the idea but i'm fine on waiting for july

idk the contests happen too frequently and its gotten to the point where me and most other people i know have stopped giving shits about the latest winners, not to mention that's probably the reason there were less levels submit for the last contest

I say yes, but I want to make the world map! Does Rosalina count as a vanilla graphic? I no, can so or send me the peach graphics: player, tile, effect, npc's, and everything associate with her?

I would like to run as a judge though, If I can do a video review of each level!

Can I judge and enter it?

Sure, I'd join it. Especially since I suck at using CGFX. xP

I'll join because I find it a lot easier to make a level only using stock graphics.

I remember hosting a contest like this in the past here. A vanilla contest. It was fun. I'd be into it.

No one will see your "custom-default" GFX, so what are you saying?

I wouldn't mind doing this at all! Can I be and pick judges? ;)

I want to judge, but if I do, I need the peach graphics!

What logic is behind that? For one, I don't think you will be picked for judging. Also, you actually do NOT need the Peach graphics.

You can have a sign that has the graphics url and say on the sign that they should be downloaded to have the best level experience.

But that ruins the whole "vanilla" concept. No custom graphics. Or links to custom graphics.

I support this, because I'd like to see what the community can come up with using the vanilla graphics, and I might participate myself since the level would need less work (finding fitting music/graphics/everything).

Joey never said no links!

Is it really so hard to not use custom graphics in a level?

This sounds like a good idea, sometimes picking and choosing graphics can overwhelm the sweet and simple gameplay of a normal level.

@XerX: Probably because the less experienced reviewers always give "0/10 no custom grafickz" Makes everyone think that levels HAVE to have CGFX.

I am asking because I have not the original player graphic! I would still like to judge, I am just stating I do not have the vanilla toad or peach graphics!
