UNOFFICIAL REVIEW of GREAT GRASSLANDS by LUDWIG VON KOOPA

This was a neat level! I enjoyed this one.

Design (6/10)
This was a rather nice World 1 type level. The design was very straightforward, but still enjoyable. I do think the vertical section is a BIT tough for a first level, which I assume is what you were aiming for here. Considering this is a Super Mario 3D World level (I think) shouldn't there be some leaves instead of just fire flowers?

Atmosphere (8/10)
Very relaxing level, this one. However, if the is an SMW3D world level, why is there NSMBU music? And like I said before, why aren't there more leaves? That aside, the graphics used here are very nice, except for the bell things in the background (I know they are from SM3DW, they still make no sense to me.) Solid effort.

Other comments: The cat goombas are so adorable <3

Overall 7/10 (Pretty Good)
For the kind of level this is, it is actually pretty solid! Good work :D

Then shouldn't this go into "Casual Levels"?

Ehhm, no:
1. Nobody downloads casual levels
2. I didn't edit my post yet
3. It's gonna be part of an episode

In that case it wasn't made just for fun. Also the first reason is dumb.

It was made before I started the project

Just checking. Anyway, my review:

This level is just kinda there. The only types of enemies in the level are Goombas (the most common; a bit too common), Cat Goombas (stomp-able Tweeter sprite-swap), Piranha Plants (although most are so far out of the player's way that they're practically just decoration), and Venus Fire Traps (but there are only two); because of this, it gets quite boring despite its short length. I know that this is only supposed to be the second level in your project, but you could at least add a bit more variety of enemies to the level as well as make it a bit longer. Basically, this isn't much more than the average Basic Grass Level. Admittedly, the vertical section added a bit of variety, but the player still has to deal with the same two types of enemies, although setting Don't Move to Yes for the Cat Goombas so they don't fall off of the platforms was a good design choice. Speaking of enemies that don't move, you have a large slope about 2/3rds through Section 1 with normal Goombas just standing there. I know you did this so that the player can slide into them and slide over the pit, but having the Goombas just standing there doing nothing looks awkward. It would be better if you filled in the pit (it's not like it adds anything to the level to begin with), set Don't Move to No, and moved the Goombas to the right. Also, there are only three star coins.

Summary:
GOOD:
-Block placement is okay; not bad, but nothing special.
-Music and graphics fit the level well.
-Unmoving Tweeter sprite-swaps on platforms in a vertical section.

BAD:
--LACK OF VARIETY OF ENEMIES.
-Goombas that just stand there, waiting to die.
-Less than 5 dragon coin sprite-swaps.
-The level is a bit short.

In conclusion: please make levels with more varied hazards; it gets boring playing a level that only has Goombas and one other type of enemy (Piranha Plants don't count), especially when the block placement hardly differentiates it from other unvaried Basic Grass Levels. I'd say this deserves a 5/10.

--EDIT--
Also, the frames for dragon coins are programmed to go in reverse when it reaches the fourth frame instead of looping like other NPCs, so it looks like the star coin abruptly reverses its spin. Simply adding frames=4 to the txt file fixes this.

--END EDIT--

@ Turtwig:
The "bell things" are supposed to be trees (I know because I played SM3DW); they were really pushing the new cat power-up with that game. Also, what about the vertical section did you find "a BIT tough"? It didn't seem any more difficult than the rest of the level to me.

I haven't played SM3DW ;-;
Also I found the overall enemy placement tough in the vertical section, but maybe I just suck ;-;
