Projects Forum Rules

Postby Shadow Yoshi » Fri Jan 17, 2014 4:55 pm

Welcome to the Projects forum! This is the place to post episodes that are a work in progress. Before you start, though, there are some rules in place:
  1. You must post screenshots with your project. Not following this rule will result in your topic getting locked. Screenshots are the best way for others to know if your project is interesting; they also provide evidence that your project exists. Videos are acceptable, but screenshots are preferred. Also, please don't get angry and hostile with a level judge when they do lock your topic.
  2. Bumping topics is fine, except in certain cases. If you have progress in your project, feel free to double-post/bump in your topic. However, bumping a topic just because it isn't getting any activity is not allowed.
  3. Give constructive criticism. When you post in someone else's project topic and want to criticize, you must do so constructively. Saying "this looks awful" without any backing as to why it's awful isn't the type of criticism that should be posted.
  4. Take criticism constructively. Just because you don't like/agree with the criticism given to your project doesn't mean it's bad criticism. Getting all riled up over someone not liking something isn't a good trait to have.
  5. Make your project realistic. Having a 100-world episode with 50 levels in each world isn't a feasible scenario.
If you follow these rules, you'll be on your way to a great-looking project.

1a. Please don't take screenshots in fullscreen. It stretches the images and makes them a pain to look at.

Here's a word of warning from DarkMatt regarding making your own project:

Spoiler: show

STARTING, DEVELOPING, WORKING ON, MANAGING, ADVERTISING, BETA-TESTING, AND FINISHING A PROJECT IS NOT FOR THE FEINT OF HEART, AND IS A MUCH BIGGER ENDEAVOR THAN MOST OF YOU CAN IMAGINE.

DO NOT CREATE A PROJECT THREAD IF YOU CAN NOT SERIOUSLY COMMIT TO IT. YOU WILL NOT FINISH IT.

I've seen too many cancellations and even blatant disregard of project rule 1. Ignorance is ignorance, but I have seen people follow the project rules and then cancel their project because too much work. Please, consider carefully whether or not you should make a thread on the Projects forum, because I don't think you want to make nothing but disappointment. You won't just disappoint everyone, you'll disappoint yourself, and I don't wish that on anyone who wants to use SMBX.

This isn't a rule, but you shouldn't waste your time if you won't give your project the attention it needs. You should do better things like make the best level you can right now and post it on the Levels forum.
