Those trees are really bright, you should change their contrast a bit. Not bad overall.

I haven't seen a background with black outlines in a while. I mean SMB3 surely doesn't have them.

People have the right idea when they say that the colours are too vibrant and paint-basic-y. You should make them a bit less vibrant, fit with each other, lessen the contrast, etc.
