Super SMB1 Grasslands by Aeon - Review
Looks and Atmosphere
This was a pretty nice looking level, it used Sednaiur's SMB1 forest GFX (I don't feel like a cliffy area is exactly where the forst tileset would fit and I would've preferred the normal tileset but whatever, it still looks pretty nice). The midway point also felt a little out-of-place, I dunno, even though it's recolored I would've preferred he flag or something else. There was an okay amount of BGOs, and aside from what I already said there isn't much to talk about. This level doesn't do anything revolutionary, but doesn't commit any huge flaws, either.
The music was pretty unfitting imo, it doesn't fit a level that seems to be more on the classic side.
So, Looks and Atmsphere gets a
7/10
Gameplay and Design (counts double)
The design was pretty good, the Yoshi coins were pretty obvious, but seeing as this is probably a World 1 level, it's ok. The moving mushrooms and other formations of ground felt really unnatural, and while the Mushrooms made atleast sense to some extent, the moving ground just felt weird and even too gimmicky. Aside from that, it was pretty solidly designed, I really can't think of any too huge flaws, aside from the fact that accidentally throwing a springboard down in section 3 would kinda suck, and
this is kind of a missed opprtunity to put a secret.
I really con't complain anywhere else, but nothinbg really stood out to me on the other hand. And the Switch block did feel a little bit out of place, but tbh it wasn't too bad, and actuall merged surprisingly well with the level.
I still really enjoyed playing this level, so Gameplay and Design gets a
7.5/10
Verdict
A pretty nice and straight-forward SMB1 level with a little bit of nonlinearity thrown in. Great for people who wanna experience something more classical.
7.8/10 too less water
7.3/10
Moved to pretty good
