That's not what Amplify does. Amplify makes it louder, not higher quality. Mp3 files have acceptable quality amd filesize, particularly for live recorded music as that's what the compression algorithm is optimised for. However, you'll likely get better sound and filesize from .ogg files, that are also supported by Audacity and SMBX2.
