I don't know if it would be possible, but what if there was a 15-minute-level contest? A contest where you only had 15 minutes to make the best level you can? How would it work? How could you avoid cheating? What do you think of the idea?

It's a cool idea, but at the same time hard to do. The only that i know is this:
Joey (or the contest creator), rents a place with some computers with SMBX in it. So, he calls the level makers that he can to the place and then they come to make he levels in 15 minutes, with supervision of Joey (or level creator) and some judges. Also, the contest creator makes some limited custom graphics, that makes the contest more hard.
But there is the problem: There is level makers from various parts of world. You from USA, Squishy Rex from Australia, me from Brazil and then bossedit8 from Germany.
But maybe there is a other way.

Skype might work too.

Joey doesn't really host events dealing with SMBX, that's more of Valtteri's job since he has hosted plenty of the events, like the CCs. This might be interesting, might making a good level in 15 minutes? That's hard. You can barely build a good Magic deck in 15 minutes, and that's not as hard as making a level.
I think if people were given an hour to build the level, it might work out better.

What about 30 minutes?

I suggest an hour if this will even happen and can happen. An hour because no one ca make a level in 15 minutes, and remember, it takes some time to plan GFX, music, compressing files, uploading them, PMing the host them...lots of stuff to take care of other than creating the level itself.

30 minutes would be fine. Remember, the challenge is creating the best level you can in an incredibly short amount of time.

I'm going to reference building a Magic deck.
In a Sealed tournament, you are given 5 15-card booster packs and you must make a 40-card deck in only 50 minutes, so more or less an hour, and that takes only a small bit of knowledge of the game.
For SMBX, to build a decent quality/sized level, it takes a while, so if the contest lasted an hour or two, that would be plenty of time, since you would have to remember that the contestants need time to upload the level, select any custom graphics, and all that other stuff. 15 or 30 minutes is not enough time to build a level, especially one of decent quality/size.

How about 2.5 days to make 3 level for a contest instead so you make the levels in the first day, rework and edit the levels in the second day, and on the third day or before you could compress files and pm the host of the contest of.your levels, better.

That's exactly the point of the contest, though.

Well that does not see very fun then, some people would like to see their level be fully built and if it is not fully built it could be bad. Also some people from around the world might have trouble with this in just 15 minutes.

You guys fail to realize that the fun is in the time limit. That's the whole point of the contest.

So... were supposed to rush our asses of a level in one hour to win a contest...
WTF NOPE this is not a good idea, It takes at least 3 days for me just to finish ONE level.

The fun of it would be limiting yourself IMO

You don't understand... you have to go through like 3 processes to make a good level:
-The creative process
-tileset/color of choice
-Profit

Yes, but 15-30 minutes is not enough to create a level. An hour will do. You should know how well this community handles rushing levels, take all of the CCs as an example.

An hour should be plenty of time to build a short level, but 15-30 minutes is not.
You can easily think up of something on the fly, the thing that takes time is building the level itself, which is why you'd need an hour.

I could do 45min if this were to become a thing, but I've made half-decent levels in 30min before.
