Up-Hill Climb

Postby CraftedPbody » Sun Oct 26, 2014 2:54 pm

This level took me a good hour to make. It is highly based on Yoshi's Island DS.
(P.S. This is my first uploaded level)

I plan on playing this level. It looks great despite the few things that clash with each other. The Gargantua Blargg is pretty cool, I've never seen it before in SMBX and I'm sure it makes the level fairly interesting. It is also good to see a variety of YI enemies as well. YI graphics just don't get that much love, so it's good to see something that isn't the norm.

Never use extended musics in your levels, because them have a extreme delay to play (for me it just does not play) and makes the file size too much bigger.
The level looks average, there is a lack of BGOs and Coins. The growing vine thing with the clouds looks strange, because the vine spawns in a different place.

This level was pretty good. The level revolves around needing to enter pipes in order to activate or deactivate red ! blocks in order to proceed further in the level. Enemy placement was relatively sparse, but the area by the Volcano Lotus was quite cluttered with NPCs, although the Volcano Lotus itself barely poses any threat toward the player. After that part, there are no harmful NPCs at all; just a large, flat plane with a switch that triggers a growing vine thing that leads to the exit. Also, like Killbot wrote, the growing vine thing gets displaced when it appears, causing this to happen:

However, my biggest problem is with the secret star: Not only does the player need to be at full running speed in order to make the jump, but the player also has to jump on the edge of the platform in order to reach the star. Making this jump is extremely annoying because it's difficult to time it just right; I recommend either extending the initial platform one unit to the left or extending the platform the player needs to jump to one unit to the right.

In conclusion: your secret star was really annoying to get, but the level is still pretty good overall. I'd say that this deserves a 6/10.

--EDIT--

Also, with all of the back-and-forth between sections that the player needs to do in order to beat the level, you didn't need to use an extended version of "Wildlands," as that only serves to make the download take longer.
