In short Extra Life is when gamers play games on live streams for 24 hours, while raising money to be donated to children's hospitals. A bunch of different gamers participate, but I'll be endorsing RoosterTeeth because of my favoritism bias, and also they beat Reddit in funds raised in 2013's Extra Life.
Did this myself and I got some friends and family in behind me. Well worth it, but I can't look at video games right now, I completed NSMBWii and most of NSMBU over the course of the 24 hour period (not live stream of course though), and I'm still not tired, though most of my gaming buddies didn't last the rest of today though. In total we nearly raised $100. It's not much, but it'll go to the right place in the end. I hope this helps some of the kids though. All in though, I was supporting RoosterTeeth, and since technically they are still hard at it, judging by the fact it is 8PM October 26th here in Oz, I hope they have a blast.

Nice work. Notch himself JUST donated now setting them at $216,845 raised.
Update:
When the RoosterTeeth stream ended, a total of about $220,000 were raised, and right now the amount is $242,321 not including poster sales (about another 100k) and RoosterTeeth's doubled donations for the last 30 minutes which added up to about $424,000 raised for Dell's children hospital, and split between each of the hospitals the donators chose.
Extra-life donations can still be made despite the end of the event. December 31st is the last day you can donate if you weren't able to get the money in time (like me, I'll be donating $100 in November) and still want to support the cause. Thanks to everyone who participated, and be sure to do so again next year!
