There's nothing in the pipe and he goes upwards

That is strange. Normally if a Piranha Plant is spitting out Fire while entering a pipe and it is by the exact spot (x position delay by player and NPC on 0), this happens. Is there any other Spitting Piranhas that are up or down from the warp pipe you entered because that can be a solution for your problem. If not then you can give us the level per download so we can see why it happens.

The only two things causing this error (that I've seen) would be

1. A Venus Fire Trap is placed right above/below a vertical warp and the player enters it right as the plant fires.
2. The SMBX graphics folder has errors. Redownloading it will fix it.
