That's a mouthful.
But basically, it's a SMB2 recolored (perhaps even SMB2 styled since I made a couple minor tweaks) version of a unused YI graphic, which was smaller than the ones in the final game (the same size as the SMB2 ones). I got the sprite from http://tcrf.net.

They look okay, maybe you should try a custom Snifit.

I actually like them, they look much better than the actual SMB2 ones ;)
