As there is no sand in SMW
I thought I would make one.

Hey. This actually looks original. I do like it. Not much to say since this looks pretty simple but it works quite well. Good work with that.

Looks good but it doesn't look like sand, you should use lighter colors.

I couldn't use lighter colors because I was limited to the Super Mario World palette.

You could still use custom palettes. Graphic Designing isn't limited to a game's palette when it comes to make a certain or, amount of graphic/s that actually fits with the game's general graphic aesthetics. It's amazing that after trying to come with a lot of vanilla graphics that were made by other people you came with something completely original, wonder why nobody tried doing something with SMW's ghost house outside tiles, other than Valtteri's extended version.
It looks good, although I wouldn't say it fits for a desert, but that's just me, I just don't see it myself. What doesn't convince me is the tileset fill, it just doesn't fit for a desert. But I do think it's original and a good attempt of making something cool. Keep it up!

I think this looks more like a canyon tileset than a desert tileset, but regardless, it looks great and original, splendid work!

I like how you took the texture from the edges of the grass tileset from the ghost house entrance cut scene, that's really clever and if this had existed back when I designed the desert levels for my SMW tribute I would definitely had used these.
You said you stuck to the SMW palette and that puzzled me. Where are these colors from? Where in SMW do you see these? I can't think of anything, someone help me out. :P

That's because that palette isn't in SMW. I believe the "yellow" has come from the grass tileset by RaccoonSam that is basically the Ghost House grass extended tileset, that has had the dark brown fill recoloured to palette you see in the sand tileset up top. Or at least, that is the only place I think it may have come from. I would suggest using the yellow Cave Tileset palette as that one has been used frequently for SMW Sand Tilesets before. I would definitely use this tileset for its intended purpose and also for the inside of a tree like in SMB2. It's really creative Cloth Pocket.

Oh yeah, that palette is actually from SMB2! It's used inside the jars and also in the dungeons.
It won't be easy to find working SMW colors for your tileset. Squishy Rex suggested the yellow cave palette but that only has three colors. The extended palette (used in one of the grass tilesets) has a few more but only one more brown shade, which makes four shades, and your tileset has five. :/

Wait a minute. So this means...
It clashes with Smw! The world as we know it has come to an end!
Just kidding. Still looks good.
