Fire Mine of Cave - By MyNameIsEric52 - Reviewed by Kep

Design - 3.5
This level's design is okay. It it something I could expect out of a game like Super Mario Bros. 3, but this is not always a good thing. First and for most, there should have been more lava and tricky platforming in this, especially since this is a fiery mine. Also, I found the music in this level obnoxious and unfitting. It sounded like it'd fit in a little castle, but NOT a mine, especially one filled with lava. Try to find a better music selection for this. The Grumble Volcano theme from Mario Kart Wii/Mario Kart 8 would be a great start. In addition, there was no main gimmick in this. Please add one, even if it's jumping or lava, moving lava, or switches, just PLEASE add a gimmick, your levels never have any gimmicks in them and sorry, but it's irritating. Lastly, the gameplay. It was pretty good, and it brought your Design category score up a bit. It was pretty fun playing this, even though, as said earlier, it needs some intricate platforming and more lava. Still, nice work with the gameplay.

Placement - 3
This level's placement wasn't all too great. When you first started out the level, there were enemies coming at you, which is a problem. Also, the second section could use some coins, and the top of section one needs some question blocks and bricks. To get to the more important stuff, though, there is a lack of pipes in this level in certain places. In certain areas of the first section, enemies were jumbled up as well and it was difficult to navigate by them. Additionally, you should make it to where you can't pick up the springboard by using a .txt notepad since you can drop the springboard into the lava and you're forced to die. I think this is about it for placement, though. Your score on it isn't too good, unfortunately. It's just your main problem is enemy placement. Believe it or not, it brought your score down by 3, which is massive.

Atmosphere - 4.5
The atmosphere resembled a fiery mine pretty good. Again, though, you need to add more lava; this sort of ruined the atmosphere. Also, while you added a decent amount of background objects in this level, you certainly could have added more. Regarding aesthetics, they were okay. You could have made the level feel more fiery though, but I'm basically repeating myself, so I'll end this paragraph here.

Overall - 3.66
This is below average quality but above bad quality, so consider it meh. I mean, it had potential, but it felt really rushed and short. Sorry if you're disappointed with your score, though. Just improve your aesthetics, gimmicks, and enemy placement and you'll probably get a 7.

Levels don't have to have a gimmick to be good, why would you take off for that?

Okay, you're not going to get anywhere assuming I took points off for gimmicks, because I didn't. It was more of a suggestion.
