I'm sure most of you know what happened that day on the East Coast, where many people died and kids have lost their parents.
Today is the 13th anniversary of 9/11. It is a sad day for America and yet it is also a day for us to look back at the past, and then focus on the future. We have already rebuilt one World Trade Center tower. Who knows, maybe the second one will be rebuilt, too?
For us Americans, it was a time where we felt helpless and scared. It was the first real time a large scale terrorism attack happened on the East Coast and most people have lived their lives and never saw something like this happen ever. We weren't ready for it and we were in chaos for the next few months that followed after the attack. But now, we are strong and are ready for the next attack won't be reduced to fear and hopelessness, instead, we will fight back against the people who want to strike terror in us and make sure they won't ever harm us again. We are the United States of America and we are strong.
What are your thoughts on today and the terrible event? Even if you aren't an American and this happened no where near you, what are your thoughts on this?

Why did you make this topic?
Aren't we trying to forget this moment? This will destroy the hearts of children!!
quick, hide it so the kids don't see!!
Personally, I hate terrorists.
I hope America doesn't have any more of those attacks...
EDIT: Ok i probably shouldn't have said that. But still. Almost everything that happens like wars, starts because of other countries.
And what's with the "anniversary" part?

As much as it was a big moment in North American history, I kind of want to leave it in the past since, yes it was a big thing, but talking about it over and over every year won't change anything. The only thing it brings up is "oh no terrorists we must defend our country."
This year the news brought up ISIS and "oh no a strike on u.s. soil would be devastating because of isis militants" and "people from all around the globe are joining isis." I like how the media brings on all these scenarios and such only to strike fear into people and make all these militant groups (that the U.S. sees as terrorist organizations) look like the big bad guys. If I remember correctly, we weren't worrying about ISIS until the U.S. Military got involved (as usual) and now we're seen as an enemy, good on them.

Well, ttytt, I think America has more enemies than we think.
We're getting ourselves into somebody else's business. No wonder we got attacked that day.
But seriously there's a big difference between these two events. One started a war and the other was to end one. Sure the U.S. gets its hands dirt in war but it hasn't killed thousands of civilians to initiate one just to spread truth, justice, and the American way like the Muslims flying the planes wanted to do with their brilliant little way of life.

The worst thing is that we (by we I mean the western world, not just the United States) created radical extremists like those of al Qaeda with the creation of Israel and that they were essentially European colonies for the majority of the 19th century.
Funny how religion is causing all this war and bullshit.

Religion and politics are at fault.
I blame the U.S.A.'s political figures since the citizens have done jack shit to deserve being threatened by any impending attacks. We should just pit the politicians up against our enemies instead of having them sit around in office issuing commands and causing problems.

Relgipn is what they rally around, what caused this "war and bullshitt" was how the Europeans and Americans treated the middle easterners several decades past.
Allow we're seeing is a reaction, we created our own monster

The thing is, the religion they rally around, calls for a caliphate. Everyone's got their sob story but not everyone turns into the killers that dominate the middle east. Millions of Muslims do just fine in western societies so I don't see this "monster" that's been created, it only seems to be the ones looking for power that are the "monster." Take ISIL for example they worship their Caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as a god and only seek the destruction of anyone that's in their way because if you're not with them you're an infidel. To see what I mean you should watch the Vice documentary about them, and some of their own propaganda videos. I just really don't think that a religion that demands the blood of enemies, and the violence in a region where that religion is practiced is too big of a coincidence.

I laughed to be honest, regardless if it was directed at me.
"I think that the USA needs to move on from September 11th.
Now before all you pseudo-patriots come attempting to sway my opinion with your “unwavering loyalty to the country”, let me just take a minute to explain things. I am an American. I’m a female. And I was a young girl when the events took place.
The events are tragic. I’m not saying that they aren’t. But the US government and the media make it out to be some worldwide catastrophe that claimed the lives of millions of people around the world, when really, the event only killed about 2,600 people, which in the grand scheme of things for a large country like the United States isn’t a huge number.
Also, we’re Americans. Not only are we extremely self-absorbed with our ignorance, fueled by the liberally biased media, we’re hardly sympathetic for our victims. We forced unspeakable violence upon the natives when we came here, we killed almost 150,000 people in dropping the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and we’ve pointlessly murdered innocent people in the Middle East.
I understand that a lot of people died, and I should be respecting them. But while we honor the dead, we can’t have these extravagant 2-hour TV specials reading the names of all these people who died 12 years after the disaster. You don’t see Japan having these insane specials reading off the names of people who died in their terrorist attacks. Yes, that qualifies as a terrorist attack.
I honestly don’t care anymore. Terrorist attacks happen all the time in other countries every day. Just because this one happened in America doesn’t make it any different. It was a terrible thing that happened, but it’s been 12 years. We killed Osama. Why we are still in Iraq, I will never know, but that’s a story for another time. The USA is comparable to a person who still clings to their ex-spouse or significant other years after they broke up.
We have to move on with our lives. Not forget about it completely, but just move on and keep in it the back of our thoughts."
"R.I.P. the 48,644 Afghan and 1,690,903 Iraqi and 35000 Pakistani people that paid the ultimate price for a crime they did not commit"
Also, you're 15 - you were too young to understand or remember what was happening so I wouldn't really say "we".

The thing is, THIS VERY EVENT is the one that plummeted us Americans in the fight against terrorism. I wish I was still living in PA, though. That way i could see the Annual Memorial that goes on to remember those who died. Oh, well. I sincerely hope that stuff ike this does not happen again.

What caused them to call for a caliphate, however?
The existence of several totalitarian secular regimes in the area, like those of Hussein, and Reza Pahlavi, all whom were supported by the United States during the Cold War. We were more concerned on preventing as many countries turn red as possible rather than support the government that would care for its citizens the most. Therefore, we sponsored terrible rulers liek Hussein and Reza Pahlavi all because they weren't Communist. Who was left to defend the common people? The religious conservatives, whom became more and more radical and extreme after decades of persecution by their respective governments.
Therefore, when these religious extremists filled the power gaps that these tyrants created after they were ousted from power, they blamed the corrupt, demonic West for causing their people such pain by supporting these terrible men.
If we had originally supported free democracy voted by these peoples in these respective countries, like Iraq and Iran and Afghanistan, then we wouldn't have this issue with religious extremism today.
