A Classic Reimagining

Postby zioy » Sat Sep 06, 2014 7:29 pm

Hey everyone, I'm here with a brand-new-ish SMB1-styled level. Everyone here will most likely recognize it.

Enjoy!

This is good, but has a lot of clouds. And also, could use a flag instead of the SMW exit? It is possible.

There isn't much to see or expect from your level based on this screenshot.

I had to. It should be obvious anyway though.

Okay, I've played this and I must say I'm pretty impressed despite a few minor flaws.

Review coming soon.

There is no need to continue to preface the fact that you're playing the level and going to be reviewing it soon.

Id say the pipe takes you too far ahead, maybe only skip a little bit. It felt like it took me almost to the end, thus missing the content on the first run. I liked the big turtle though.

A Classic Reimagining - by KoolKat - Reviewed by Kep

Design - 6.5
This level's design is pretty in-your-face like 'hey I'm a generic level'. Which honestly isn't a bad thing. I tend to like levels like these. I think you could have used something like a remix for the SMB1 theme you used in this level, though. (No points will be taken off for that.) Also, personally, you should make the ending goal more SMB1-esque by using the SMB1 flagpole Sednaiur has in his SMB1 expanded pack. On top of that, I think you should use the SMB1-styled mushroom and fire flower since it looks a bit weird mixing SMB1 and SMB1 IMO. Otherwise, there isn't much else to say about the design.

Placement - 5.5
This level has okay placement. Some points of this level had a bit spammily placed enemies, though, and you should certainly tone down the immense amount of coins towards the end of the level. There weren't much pipes, either. Question blocks and bricks were goodly placed, but I think you should add some more towards the end, and tone down the power-ups. Also, the clouds at the top were REALLY spammy, I mean really. Even if you cut the amount of clouds you have by half you'd still have too much. Lastly, and I know this is extremely minor, but it's weird how the castle at the end of this level is stretched into the boundaries, if you know what I mean. Please make it fully on screen, I mean I don't know why, but it just bugs me, personally. Otherwise, great placement. You just added too much of certain things and added too little of certain things as well.

Atmosphere - 7.5
Great SMB1 grassland atmosphere! I just think you should add a tiny bit more BGOs on land (but remove at least 3/4s of the clouds used in this level) and add a tiny bit more BGOs for the bonus section. But there's not much else to say.

Overall - 6.5
A cool little generic level, but there was a few flaws in this level which made your score go down. Also, sorry for the shortish review.

OK now that this has been reviewed, I'll spoil it:
this is a remake of SMB1 1-1
