Waterfall Heights

Postby SpikyGecko » Mon Sep 01, 2014 7:24 pm

I'm starting my first SMBX Project (Don't have a name yet) so I decided to see what you guys think of it. The level has 3 stars in total, and has custom graphics made by Zephyr.

Stars:
1: Get to the goal.
2: Jimbo's jumping challenge.
3: Team Goomba miniboss.

Please keep in mind that Team Goomba is my first custom boss, so it might not be the greatest.

The level could look better. The SMB3 styled graphics don't fit in well with the Yoshi's Island background and with the SMW Checkpoint and spring. Also, that random bump in the wood looks kinda weird. Besides that, level looks promising.

Whoa, this is actually a well made level, even though the SMB3 wood blocks seem out of place when compared to the main tile-set. With that said, this level has a few problems. For example, I agree with Epoch that the tree in the second screenshot shouldn't be placed where it is (unless you had removed the light-blue SMW post, then its placement would have been pretty clever). Also, if you're going to have a level with multiple stars, make sure that they're SMW stars and that the player can go back to the main level; it was annoying to have to go through practically the entire level again to get the main star and the jumping challenge star. Finally, I wouldn't call Team Goomba a custom boss since it's literally just two slow Goomba generators and you win if you survive long enough. I actually got bored playing that and just let the Goombas build up until I could stomp multiple ones at once, and I ended up getting a few extra lives simply by doing that.

In conclusion: despite Team Goomba and the level's minor flaws, this is still an enjoyable level, and I'd say that it deserves a 6/10.
