Worst Super Mario Decisions?

Postby Mista Epic » Wed Aug 27, 2014 12:36 pm

This thread is for your opinion of the worst decisions ever made in the Super Mario series.

Mine would have to be removing Goombas and replacing them with Galoompas in Super Mario World, just for them to remove Galoompas and re-add Goombas in the next ones! Why couldn't we have just had both?

Super Mario 3D World adds galoombas into the game, but almost every Mario Game other than that have been trying to mimic SMB and SMB3 only.
I think NSMB2 and Paper Mario Sticker Star were Nintendo's Ultimate Mistakes.
PMSS was a train wreck. There was no fun in that. I KNOW THIS IS NOT IN THE SUPER MARIO SERIES, BUT THIS IS A MARIO BASED FORUM, AND THIS IS A MARIO BASED THREAD.
-It was way too easy. I beat it in 5 hours, And the World Record is somewhere around 4. This is kindergarten difficulty!!
-The RPG element was sucked out of the game and replaced with this money and sticker system that makes no sense. There's no reward or point systems that get used for battling and after battles. You find stickers everywhere, and all you get for defeating enemies is coins, and they do nothing but buy you... Well, more stickers. You could breeze through the game only beating bosses and be done with it in no time.
-Nintendo never raised the bar with graphics or gameplay on this like they did on Super Mario 3D Land. I was expecting for them to at least make it look like the commercial or the ads, with the little fabric looking Mario. It feels the same as PM and PMTTYD. The fucking Gamecube could outdo this puddle of shame.

NSMB2 had nothing else to offer either. It wasn't better than NSMBWii or NSMBDS. (But those two were actually good.)
-It's too short. Too easy. Notice a Pattern here? This is ridiculous.
-The 3D effect is garbage. It doesn't do shit but screw with the background and blur it up. And it was the only thing I liked!!
-The level design. It didn't feel like anything new. It was flat and it felt like a copy to SMW.
-Multiplayer is atrocious. You can't fucking move 3 blocks without the other player ground pounding you and dragging the camera around. You feel like your walking a dog!!
-The leaf? Yeah, so new and creative!! (sarcasm). The Mega Mushroom? One stage only. Freaking Gold Flower? USELESS. It's a power-up that makes golden exploding fireballs that do nothing but turn bricks into coins. I mean, it's Overpowered, and It lasts for one stage. It doesn't help AT ALL.
-The Coin Rush mode is just... dumb. The only thing that Coin rush mode is for is the Streetpass function. It's so pointless. And the "Gold Classics" Thing is what everybody is damn tired of. Remakes. It even has NSMB2 1-1 in there. You're kidding me, right?
-The SFX and GFX are recycled. It's the exact same as NSMBWii!! Like I said with PMSS:
THESE GAMES DO NOT SHOW THE 3DS'S CAPABILITIES AT ALL. THEY SHOW HOW LAZY NINTENDO HAS GOTTEN WITH THE 3DS.

I like Super Mario 3D Land because it actually showed how good the 3DS was.
It even inspired Super Mario 3D World, which was Fantastic.
The only two Mario games I really liked at all on 3DS were:
SM3DL, and MK7.
Other than that, I'd rather be playing Wii U.
That's my full opinion.

Are you going to sit there and say a game that was nearly impossible without YouTube's help is easy? Because it's not easy. It's the most difficult Mario game on the 3DS and one of the most unfairly difficult Mario game out there due to having to memorize lots of things, take in a lot of things, and having to find a lot of things. Not to mention, the bosses were very difficult if you don't have the correct things that make it significantly easier.

But I do agree that NSMB2 was stupidly easy and bad.

Anyways, I think it was a mistake that Nintendo never made a sequel to SMB2. Being one of the most creative, but difficult, 2D Mario games out there, it featured innovative design and characters and honestly, if they made something like a 3D SMB2 or just in general something like SMB2 I would flip out in a good way.
As for bad games in general, Mario is Missing for the NES was downright awful and I see Nintendo learned that because they never made anything like it again. Hotel Mario was also a big mistake, and the difficulty in Sunshine was also a mistake that kind of ruined the game for me seeing that I am bad at video gaming. Last but not least, NSMBDS. While it's nowhere near as bad as NSMB2, I don't see why people like this game. It's so stupidly hard and it also lacks nearly everything a truly good Mario game requires! I pretty much dislike everything about it, but thankfully, NSMBWii made the series a lot better, and NSMBU/NSLU made the series nothing more but even better.

Super Mario Bros. 2 was easily my favorite 2D Mario platformer.
I understand you think Paper Mario Sticker Star was hard, but if You beat it 6 times, it will actually be kind of easier.
The World record is around 4 hours, and the person that did the speedrun didn't get stuck at all. I have the game though, and I beat it.
Though I still will keep my opinion about its gameplay and RPG elements.

And, well, everybody has their opinions about NMSBDS. I love it. I don't think it's bad of a game. The gameplay is amazing for the DS, and the level design is nice.
The power-ups were the only thing that I didn't like.
But you have your opinion, and I have mine.
Let's not get upset at each other for opinions.

One time I've seen a gameplay of Mario's time machine, and, well, the game sucks.

Also I didn't really like the difficult in NSMBDS. It was really easy compared to other games.

Mario's time machine was made after Mario World when Nintendo was falling behind and made this to try to boost sales. It was rushed into market by "Mindscape", and it's terrible.

New Super Mario Bros. DS was still fun for most people, and it had alot of gameplay time, especially with the star coins. The power-ups were still useless other than the fire flower. The graphics were not really good, but I mean, it's the DS, so it doesn't matter too much.
The difficulty was a little too easy, but I had a blast playing it when I first did.
Still, either way, NSMB2 has a difficulty for kids 3+. (Exaggeration)
I understand some people don't like NSMB for DS, but in 20 years, I bet that millions of kids will be looking at, say... Mario 3D World and saying, Why the fuck would anyone like that game anymore?

I don't know, what do you people like better?
NSMB DS?
or
NSMB2?

New Super Mario Bros. wasn't a bad game for me. It was very fun especially the Blue Shell Power Up as it was very unique in my opinion. There was also a 2 player match for the Stars and even Minigames to play. So, nothing was bad for me on this Game.

NSMBDS was a pretty good game, if not as well-designed as NSMBW. It clearly had a lot of work put into it and had some creative power-ups, as bossedit said. It might not have been as original as SMB3 and SMW but it was still a pretty good game, and difficult enough.

The Blue Shell is amazing and fun to plow through enemies with. The worst Mario decision was probably making NSMB2 for the 3DS. The game had potential, but it would be better on the Wii U (however, NSMBU is amazing so I'm not complaining)

NSMBDS is the most difficult 2D Mario game IMO.
I got stuck on the first world.

I think the mega mushroom is really overpowered.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. Besides, it's nowhere near as powerful as the White Leaf in SM3DL and SM3DW and it's also not as overpowered as the Golden Fireflower in NSMB2. And not the P-Wing, either.

Look at it this way. If it is an open level, you can use the mega mushroom to skip a HUGE chunk of the level. And you can get up to five lives from hitting enemies or destroying blocks.

It is pretty darn overpowered in my eyes, but then again, I haven't bought a Mario game since NSMBDS, so I don't know that many of the newer powerups.

Even though its not part of the Super Mario series, I'd agree on Sticker Star.
