Sound Problem When Playing

Postby Ktez » Wed Aug 27, 2014 9:39 am

Greetings. I am recently encountering a problem about music and sound effects. When I am playing an episode, sometimes the background music, and/or some sound effects won't play. When I restart the game they sometimes play normally but this time some other sounds won't play. This occurs randomly, especially when I unlock a new level. I am playing the 1.3.0.1 version. I tried find a solution on the Internet but I couldn't find anything helpful. Can you help me?

SMBX loaded too much things. Try delete the custom players graphics (if you have some). Maybe you put many blocks, NPCs and BGOs, so try to delete some of them.

Well, I'm playing other people's completed episodes so I think I can't change the levels (or even need to change them). Are you sure about there aren't any different reasons?

Let's be a bit more specific here. Inside somebody's SMBX Episode, are there any graphics that has to do with Players? Players: mario; luigi; peach; toad; link - They are 1000x1000 Pixels big

If it is, remove it. If it wasn't the case then we have to look further.

I took The Tower Of Biased 6 as example. Yes, there were .gif files about the players and they were 1000x1000 pixels big. I deleted them and when I opened the game it worked. I restarted the game to be sure, then the problem occured again. So this time I deleted these kind of files from all episodes' files. But when I restarted a few times they started to play normally now. I think it's solved, thank you so much!

By the way, I am new to the game's mechanics, do you know any good tutorials about graphics or level editing? Thanks.

After a while, the problem started to occur again. I heard some audio codecs are the cause of this. I uninstalled them and now I'm 100% sure about it's solved.

Hey, I have a similar problem, but I downloaded the game from the main page and added literally NOTHING to it.

So far, none of the maps I've played in the Invasion have any music, and several sound effects are missing (Yoshi eating things, one up sounds, stuff like that). I saw that some of the explanations here were that the person in question added something or deleted something, but I just took the most up to date game from the main page, vanilla as can be. Any idea what the problem might be or how I can get those sound files to work?

You also can install into your SMBX the LunaLUA+SDL package, it replaces audio engine which works faster and easier, and also adding new audio formats. Microsoft MCI is dumb audio API which sometimes losing playback or works too hard and slow. SDL uses native decoders and uses united stream to play musics and sounds.

Uninstall all of your audio codecs and try again. This is likely due to ffdshow or another audio codec tampering with the sound.

What he said. Others have had the problem and this worked.
