Problems when trying to play the game

Hi everybody,

It may be naive or even stupid problems, but I was not able to fix them yet. I wanted to give a try to SMBX, but I am always stuck because of two issues. I tried it on a somehow old Windows XP i386 PC, and on a newer amd64 one running Windows 7.

In each case I got stuck when starting a game. Here are the two issues I always got stuck at:
- If I select my joypad (basic Microsoft one) for the first player, then once done, I cannot do anything, whatever I do, trying to use either the joypad or even the keyboard to go on back (from the options screen) to the main screen (in order to start a game).
- If I play with the keyboard (to avoid above issue), the game got stuck as soon as I meet a Toad who is talking to me. Then I cannot remove what he said, whatever I do, the game stays stuck.

Did I do something wrong? Any idea?

Thanks in advance!

I don't use a controller so I don't know about your first question, but as for your second pressing jump should cause messages to disappear. That's how it's supposed to work.

Make sure you've downloaded the program from a link on this site rather than from a random place on the internet. Reinstalls sometimes will fix problems.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your answers and advices. It seems that my problem is only with the controller. Everything indeed works fine with the keyboard, but when I try to play with the controller, there is some issues (like the ones discussed above). My controller is a Microsoft SideWinder Game Pad Pro. I have no problem with it when playing any other games though. Is anyone using a controller too or having issues using one?

Thanks!

I was able to plug in an Xbox controller and use it just fine with proper configuration. Are you sure you're entering in the values for your controller properly?

Joy2Key may be a good option - I haven't researched it much, but it may help.

Joy2Key works but it's difficult to configure, the best controller to use really is a wired PS3 controller
