I'm aware of that. But couldn't somebody take the existing game, and, now that Lua exists, package it into episode form, making the .exe redundant?
In fact, couldn't we technically do that for all of the episodes with .exe files? Such as the ASMBXT series, and the STTB series?
Who is "we"?

Why not contact the developers? The people who made this game. Reason being if you release a seperate version of the game not only could you mess something up or get too carried away with fixing things (I've seen you attempt that in the past, you have a tendency to steamroll over other people's work), but also would cause a lot of confusion since then there'd be TWO versions of the game, only one approved by the actual devs.

Okay, the reason I said "The SMBX Community" was in a direct attempt to distance myself from it. I honestly don't want to work on these episodes. That would be a massive headache. I was just making the point that there's no need for an .exe due to the addition of LunaLua.
The reason I haven't contacted the developers is simply because they're gone. The devs aren't anywhere on the forums or on chat. Believe me, if they were, I would've already done so.
Also, aside from SMB:Collaboration, when have I steam-rolled somebody's work? The only reason I did that with SMB:Collaboration (Which is currently on haitis) was because I looked at it and saw so much unrealized potential. I looked it at, and thought "All this episode needs is a lot of polish, and it could go from a good episode to an excellent one. I asked the few devs I could find, and they said they were through with game and didn't want to work on it. And when I considered removing bad levels, I held a poll. The majority said no, so I won't.

Have you installed LunaLUA? That may be the problem.

Did anybody get a virus alarm when trying to download the modified SMBX? That happened to me and I'd like to make sure it's a false positive.

Everything needed should be in the download. Anything relating to newer versions of SMBX would be entirely superfluous.
@arcade999 my best guess is something missing in your computer environment, like a DLL that's normally in most Windows 7/8 installations. Might be a Windows 10 thing.

That accidental bug which now can be easily fixed with the latest version of "PGE Maintainer" (pge_maintainer in the PGE folder):
http://talkhaus.raocow.com/viewtopic.ph ... 71#p371771
I finally made ability to fix all levels: laboratory package of PGE now will always have a latest PGE Maintainer tool which now has new tool:
- Level/Episode converting/fixing
- Then point to episode
- Check SMBX1...64 as target format, then press "Start".
All levels are will have fixed order of BGOs and compared to internal SMBX's order priorities table.
I already applied fix globally and SAJewers updated public build. But you is able to run fix yourself to don't re-download everything.

I figured out by myself today, so here's how it goes:
1) follow the link to the talkhaus thread
2) download the basegame and get it past your antivirus (a little less than 100 MB)
3) after extracting, you should see a folder named "Main Game", that's where you find the applications to run that custom SMBX engine
however there's no episode to be played yet, so
4) download "Episode 1: Analog Funk" (a good 550MB) and put the 7zip into the "worlds" subfolder of "Main Game"
5) extract it there, I recommend using "extract here" instead of "extract into new folder"; it's supposed to look like this:

i don,t know what i,m doing wrong. i have both downloads. i extracted episode 1 in worlds but trying to start up the game doesn,t seem to work. which file starts up the game. this is so annoying and confusing. the smbx file keeps getting deleted and the a2mbxt file deletes that too

Did you make it a subfolder of any "normal" SMBX episode?
If not, can you show off your folder structure?
The applications to run the game are simply called "a2mbxt" or "smbx" (both with a custom icon)

I'm loving this so far, but why do characters appear behind bgos?
Also it seems like this engine doesn't support cheats
