Checkered Way
GFX: 7/10
The gfx were really nice, the creator obviously tried to go for a SMW ROM Hack design, which was interesting. What bothered me though was the fact that the big SMW bushes weren't in the same style as the rest of the level, and together they kinda clashed. Another point is that the outline of the Koopas were yellow instead of black like all the other gfx, which also caused some minor clash.
Besides that, these were really good custom styled gfx which gave the level a unique atmosphere that was far from the boring SMW, while still keeping the charm that SMW had.
Music: 7/10
Using SMW soundfont music could've been horribly wrong, but luckily, in this case it didn't. It fit the atmosphere as the level, even though the NSMB overworld may be a bit overused, especially since it's already a default song in SMBX. This was not bad, but I guess there would've been better choices.
NPCs: 6/10
This level had the usual Goomba, Koopa, Piranha set you'd expect from a grass level. This may not be original but it fits the level. The NPCs were in all the right places and no annoyances.
There were enough power-ups, and the Dragon Coin placement was cleverly done.
Gameplay: 5/10
This level was pretty generic and almost completely linear, but still fun to play. It may have been a little easy as there were no real challenges, but it was still enjoyable.
The block and coin placement was nice, it gave the whole level a SMW feeling and I especially liked the ? - Blocks on the ground that you need a Koopa shell to hit.
Another noteworthy thing is a little gimmick that made the level even more SMW like: enemies that break out of flip-blocks to attack the players like in SMW. This gimmick was cleverly executed and really nice to see in this level.
Over all this was a nice level, it was fun to play, but nothing out of the ordinary. 6.25/10, moved to Pretty Good.
