Shocking Shooter part 1 - Koopa Lake

Postby Radishl » Sun Aug 10, 2014 11:05 pm

Well here it is. Two days in the making.

SHOCKING SHOOTER - Koopa Lake
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is basically the adventures of Toad when he isn't already doing so with Mario and friends.
Follow Toad as he makes his way through the world and tries to stop evil and make a way for righteousness and justice!
This is part 1 of the trilogy so expect a part two in the near future!
Credit to Raster for his delicious tilesets and graphic pack, dragonmaster for his graphics and various other graphics in the folder. Also h2634, the backgrounds that you ripped are delicious.

Not going to expose too much of it, you guys are going to have to explore it for yourselves.

Feedback and a level rating would be appreciated.

Challenges

- Ill give a fish to anyone who can finish the level without using the axe powerup except for the boss fight. Since in that case it is required to use.

- Ill give someone an up rep if he completes the level without taking a single damage.

- I'll give someone a fish if they complete the level collecting all coins.

- Whoever finds the secret room via pipe, they will be given an up rep.

This must be caught on footage.

Isn't it kind of a bad reason to give an uprep for completing a level without taking damage?

I downloaded the File but as I can see the Level data isn't in this Folder where the Graphics and Music takes place. Please update your download Link that we can get and play your Level file.

Currently it looks very interesting so far.

Your level looks nice and also thanks for using my ripped backgrounds. If you want, you can use this background, instead of the one with shadow:

And also, you should rename background2-43(2) to background2-43 or else it won't work. And yeah, the .lvl-file is missing.

Thank you for your valiant efforts, Bossedit8.

You will now be given the title - Baron of Koopa Lake!

Also could I get a level judge to review this please.

I will review that.
Spoiler: show
It's an acceptable level, I liked that, this have a pretty unique atmosphere too. But I think it's a little annoying harder than this really have to be. And it's simple and very linear. I think the only funny part is when I receive the Bullet Gun and when I have to chase the Koopa's bus. At least this have good graphics and a good music (I think it's unnecessary the music switch when the player receives the Gun).

Design - 3.30/5
It's an acceptable linear level, but some parts are really hard, some other have a flood of enemies (chasing koopas and bullets) and I really don't liked that. I think you need to fix somethings in the design too. Some details gives a look of a "amateur design), like the scenario placement and the tileset placement. I can look for some cut-offs too. And it's a boring level in some aspects. Anyway, I really liked the boss. It's creative and fun to play.

Placement - 2.65/5
Exaggerated. You can remove some of Big Piranhas, Bullet Launchers and Chasing Koopas. This have some really hard parts. With or without the Hammer Suit. It's really annoying. Some parts have a bad coin placement too. And why this level just have one Dragon Coin?

Atmosphere - 3.15/5
It's a good atmosphere, since some details gives a bad vibe in this. Well, as I always say: Polishment is the main word. You need to improve the level design, the features along them, better distribute the NPCs, scenario and design and, with this, the atmosphere will be a little better.

Aesthetics - 2.85/5
It's acceptable in some parts, but the cut-offs and design problems gives a "amateur vibe" in this level. The scenario and the NPCs placement gives that problem too. I think it's a good level, with a good concept, with excelent graphics, but without a great use of this.

Overall - 11,95/20 or 5,975/10
