SMBX Community SSB 3DS/Wii U tournaments?

Postby Drluigi » Sun Aug 10, 2014 2:17 am

This is just an idea I had. What if we started to hold community tournaments for these two games? Most of them would probably be for the 3DS version because more people in this community seem to own a 3DS than a Wii U. (I have both.) The tournaments would be like this:
  • >16 players
  • >1v1 matches
  • >Either For Glory Mode or For Fun Mode with no items or stages with walk off and hazards
  • >Winner gets some sort of prize if someone's willing to donate one
So, what do you guys think? Would you be up to it?

If you're getting it day one like me, then I'm totally up for it. I could use a warm up. ;)

Well, I'm getting the 3DS version day one, but I'll probably get the Wii U version for my birthday or Christmas unless I end up getting a lot of money really fast.

This is an excellent idea. It would be a good alternative to Quill's Mario Kart 8 tournaments.

There's a slight problem with this idea, though. We would have to do a lot of friend code exchanging if there's not some kind of online tournament mode, or is that ok with you guys? Also, here's another idea. We could have one tournament for every season, and we alternate between the Wii U and 3DS version for each season, like this.

Fall Tourney = 3DS tourney
Winter Tourney = Wii U tourney
Spring tourney = 3DS tourney
Summer tourney = Wii U tourney

I feel like taking a break from all this forum drama to beat the living crap out of each other as our favorite video game characters every 3-4 months would be a good way to bring the community closer together.

We don't know everything about how online will work yet. For all we know, there could easily be some sort of tournament mode like in MK8.

There will be no need to share friend codes either, you share Nintendo Network IDs now. At least this is the case for the Wii U, I know 3DS still uses friend codes but the Nintendo Direct implied NN IDs will be used.

Smash Run tournaments would kinda be more luck based than skill based because you never really know what powerups you're gonna get from the enemies. I don't really see this happening, sorry. :(

Also, sign ups for the 3ds tournament will most likely start when we get some kind of confirmation on wether there's some kind of online tournament mode or not, or we could just start them now, anyway because people are saying they'll join. The actual tournament will probably start about a week or two after the 3DS version comes out so we all have time to practice and get the game and stuff.
