Daisy is just Daisy. She is pretty much only around because Mario saved her in Super Mario Land(though its actually because Nintendo figured Peach needed a doppelganger like Mario to Wario and Luigi to Waluigi).

No, it isn't. Unless Nintendo states somewhere that Daisy is something other than Peach's sister, the fandom can develop its own theories about it.

Just a note: I've modified the timeline a little after finding out there's a bit of a retcon involving the placement of NSMBU. I just realised now that the Koopalings are in this game and I stated further down that the Koopalings were introduced when Bowser hired them before NSMB2. I've shifted NSMBU down the timeline towards the end for this reason, and reintroduced the idea of the bros snagging all the coins after NSMB2, causing a Great Depression, and Bowser expoiting this to attack the entire Mushroom World along with the Koopalings. If you see a disrepancy there, as well as anywhere else in the timeline, let me know.

why don't you focus on fixing the multitude of factual errors in the list (ie, king k rool is not in any of the returns games) instead of writing nonsense about how mario caused the mushroom kingdom to go through a great depression (????????????????????????????????????????????????????)

I might agree that Peach is a love interest to Mario, but not so much Daisy to Luigi. That might seem like a plausible assumption, but it's just that she was in only one standard "Super Mario" platforming game where Luigi wasn't even playable.

I only agree with MatPat's theory. It actually seems legit

One of Daisy's closest relations is with Luigi...In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Daisy's trophy states: "After her appearance in Mario Golf, some gossips started portraying her as Luigi's answer to Mario's Peach". The official Mario Party 4 guide states that Luigi has a crush on Daisy.

It also says that Waluigi has a crush on Daisy, and I was aware of the melee trophy and it doesn't prove anything for me at all, but I see the article's point otherwise. Like I said it's not unthinkable that they'd have something, but in contrast Mario and Peach have been involved in many adventures, and Luigi's own games focus on saving Mario. It seems like more of an arbitrary decision to pair off the characters because not much is really changed from doing that. They could just as well have been really good platonic friends and it wouldn't have mattered.

While I agree that Luigi and Daisy's potential relationship is less pronounced than that of Mario and Peach, it still makes the most sense to pair Luigi with Daisy. That's what the fandom has been doing.

I understand that, but well... I'll try not to get too philosophical with the Marios but I feel it "makes the most sense" because that's what we all feel inclined to do in this world. Grow up, get relationship, get married, have kids. It "makes sense" but when you step outside of that bubble of normativity, it's just this thing that everyone does because they feel they must. That's why it feels arbitrary to me.

But, you know, I get it.

Oh, I didn't mean "makes the most sense" like that at all; I'm not advocating pairing Luigi with anybody, just saying that out of all the people you could pick for Luigi it'd make the most sense to pick Daisy. I see how that was misinterpreted, though.

To be honest, we don't know who Peach's boyfriend is, or whether Peach has a boyfriend or not. It's commonly implied through the games that Mario is, and it makes perfect sense to agree with it, but given that Mario was still with Pauline by the time he first received the kisses off her, it's still a matter of debate.

It can also be argued that Mario continued to save Pauline because she needed to be saved (like he does for everyone else) rather than because she was his girlfriend.

It seems pretty accurate so far in terms of the line-up, however, I noticed you missed Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, the events of which happen directly before 3D World.

That actually could make quite a lot of sense if put into context, because it explains why we have Shy Guys, Ninjis and the like in the real Mario universe yet they originated from a dream world, but it won't work on the timeline because it was stated that the events of the game itself were Mario's dream, not the entire Mario series itself, and it would also simply lead rise to Bowser and his army not existing at all. It's kinda like this now-dead theory that because nearly all Zelda games start with Link sleeping, they must all be a dream. The reason I put it after DDR:MM is because Mario had to be so tuckered out so much after dancing and taking down a new evil he needed to take a well-earned rest. He never woke up because he was sleeping so deeply.
