I LOVE Cave Story. It's one of my favorite platforming games.
Of all the versions, there is:
The Original - PC
Cave Story - DsiWare/WiiWare
Cave Story - Eshop
Cave Story 3D - Eshop (3DS only)
Cave Story Plus - Steam for 10 bucks (Ripoff, find it for free)
Anyway, Cave Story (洞窟物語 Dōkutsu Monogatari?) is a freeware platform-adventure video game released in 2004 for the PC. It was developed over five years by Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya in his free time. Cave Story features 2D platform mechanics and is a homage to the classic games the developer played in his youth, such as Metroid.
After its initial self-published release, Cave Story slowly gained popularity on the Internet. It received wide critical acclaim for its compelling story and gameplay. Independent developer Nicalis worked with Amaya to port the game to WiiWare and DSiWare in 2010. An enhanced version, Cave Story+, was released for Steam in November 2011, with a Nintendo 3DS release in October 2012. A 3D remake of the game, titled Cave Story 3D, was developed by Nicalis and published by NIS America for the Nintendo 3DS in November 2011.
The game focuses on an amnesiac protagonist who awakens in a cave. Through his explorations, he discovers a plot by the Doctor, a megalomaniac who intends to force the inhabitants of the cave to fight for him in his bid to conquer the world. The protagonist is thrust into the position of savior as he endeavors to defeat the Doctor.
I'm a huge fan of Cave Story. Its my favorite indie game I ever played.

Not sure if I'd buy it for the whole $10, I think it's kind of pricey, considering it's a basic 8-bit platformer. The 3D new game coming out, I can barely recognize as Cave Story. I've played the demo, and it was fun.

No, you don't need to buy it.
You can get the PC version for free. You should get that one.
They also have a CS+ cracked version for free.
The 3D version isn't necessary for full gameplay, but the 3D Realistic Graphics are amazing. The BG's and tiles are a little too dark, so turn up brightness if you get this.
Cave Story on the Eshop is a waste. It's the DSiWare version, but with a slightly bigger Field of View.

Pirating is bad though. And there are a few differences between CS and CS+, and I quote (hehe, 'Quote')
"It has the updated graphics and 2 different soundtracks. (Remastered and New, which most people hate) Some of the lines in the original are replaced. ("Doctor dumb can go..." was changed to "The doctor can go eat one!" Something like that) There are 4 different challenges. (Sanctuary time attack, Boss Rush, Wind Fortress and Nemesis Challenge) Cave Story+ has Curly story, which makes you play as Curly instead of Quote. The plus version also has achievements if playing on windows. (Not sure about Mac) Lastly, Cave Story+ has three different modes: Easy (half damage) Normal and Hard (locked at 3 hp, no missile launcher from what I've heard)
Sanctuary time attack let's you choose certain weapons and 3, 26 or 55 hp. No Missile or Super Missile launcher, No life pot and no Snake.
Boss Rush puts you in a remote area and makes you fight all bosses in Chronological order. (Can't skip bosses, even if optional) It also times you through out the entire time, so getting the S rank achievement is hard.
Wind Fortress is a added area you go through with 41 hp, spur, blade and booster V2.0 (Map system is in the first room you start the challenge in) It's hard if you aren't used to using tricks with the booster.
Nemesis challenge is a series of 3 rooms that you go through. You start with Nemesis, (Only weapon) Booster V0.8 (V2.0 is in a chest in the first room at the end of it) and 10 hp."
Now I wouldn't recommend putting $10 into CS+, but if you can get it in a bundle like from Humble Bundle, or if it goes on sale, then I say go for it.

You probably missed my entire post explaining the difference between CS and CS+.

No i didn't. I didn't say to pirate the game though. Steam stole it and they wont give it to anyone for free.
I don't pirate things, and I don't encourage it either.
I encourage people to download the PC version.
I read your post.
No they wont get a sale on it. Steam made a contract on it. You can't sell the game, and you can't make a download link for free.
Nicalis can't change that, and neither can pixel.

Dude, if you looked on the fucking store page, you will see that the developer is Studio Pixel. The original creator put it on Steam himself, and steam doesn't take games and sell them, game developers do. Steam is just a platform. Also, there has been sales on it, usually during the big holiday sales. Did you even research any of this?

Nicalis wouldn't sell CS+ for free and I haven't seen ANY of the holiday sales, checking over and over again.
And I said nothing rude to you that deserves your fucking rant.
If you're going to burst into anger because of a small thing, go fuck with someone else who has time for it.

I'm sorry? I'm not the one screaming in caps at another user. I'm not bursting into anger either. Also, I'm pretty sure that a portion of profits goes to Studio Pixel, so if you don't feel like supporting a developer who worked 5-6 years on a game, as well as a single person who remade the game and ported it to consoles, that's completely fine. I for one, think that it is a game worth paying for, especially for such a nostalgic game. And I have seen it go on sale many times.

That comment with the caps was an accident. My hand rests on the left hand side of a keyboard, and I pressed caps lock on accident.
You're comment was unnecessary.
And I've seen many games go on Steam that get a price tag added onto without the creator putting it on there.
And What I MEANT to say about my comment was:
Nicalis WONT do anything about it, and Neither will Pixel.
I didn't mean they couldn't. I wasn't paying attention to my sentence and grammar.
Nicalis makes tons of money on CS DsiWare, WiiWare, Eshop, and CS3D.
I don't think they should put a price tag on CS+.
It's not worth it. I'd rather get their original for free and save $10 for the 3DS one.
and please stop with the random cussing because of my mistake.

If they can put a price tag on the ones in Eshop, they should be allowed to put it on CS+. Also, I swore like once in this topic. I'm gonna stop arguing with you about this though because honestly I have better things to do in my life. Whatever floats your boat man.

... What kind of response was that?
I wasn't arguing. It's just that your post was unnecessary, and I didn't like it at all.
The caps was an accident.
Look, I never said what Nicalis has to do. It's just that $10 for a PC game with 32x32 graphics instead of the original 16x16 isn't that worth it.
I said I wouldn't buy CS+.
I will buy the Console versions, and have the original on my computer.
I just don't feel like CS+ is worth buying. Something like CS3D was better in my opinion. I would buy that, and If you wouldn't, and you'd rather get CS+, I respect that.

Ya I do like it, but If you would like to support them, I would recommend the 3D game. It looks really good, but the graphics are dark, so keep brightness at 5 for maximum... vision? I guess.
