Cold Crypt

Postby HenryRichard » Mon Aug 04, 2014 8:22 pm

Another level of mine. This will be used in my project, though I have slightly edited it for here. It is only playable as Luigi and Peach. Sorry, but it was necessary for the gimmick to work.

Music is Terraria's deep underground. The graphics were made by Valtteri and me.

It's a review:
Spoiler: show
What a good level. I really liked this, even being a level with a simple system. You have to use Peach or Luigi to advance in this level. I really liked the "?" blocks system. If you use one, the blocks will change. Anyway, I think you exaggerated the amount of coins in some blocks. It's so much coins to a small cave level. I think you can remove some Buzzy Beetles (and Fishes in the water part) because, with the slippery mode in the blocks, it's hard to avoid a grand amount of bad guys.

Design - 3.55/5
It's simple, but it's acceptable. But I can look for some cut-offs (like in the vine part stopping in a slope) and some tight parts (like in the water section). At least, I liked the player's blocks system. Works properly, without any major problems. I just think you can decrease the number of coins in the blocks and decrease the number of blocks in the section 2. Yet, in this section, Peach will collect the Dragon Coin easily and Luigi will catch the 1-up easily. Adapt this thing.

Placement - 3.10/5
I can see an enormous number of enemies in some parts, and with the slippery tiles, it's hard to avoid them. I can see a lot of coins in blocks, but a minor number of coins outside of the blocks (the normal placement of coins). Some fishes have been placed in tight areas. I personally don't like them because it's hard to avoid. I don't know if this can be considered a good or bad thing, but: The Buzzy Beetles can "fly" in the section 2, in the colorful "?" blocks part.

Atmosphere - 4/5
This have a really good atmosphere. I really liked the Terraria sound. Fits pretty good with the level's theme. Since you don't use "original graphics", I can say you rebuilt the SMW ice level in another atmosphere with perfect precision. If the Flying Koopas going to be replaced with Flying Buzzy Beetles and if the coins (and the Dragon Coins) going to be recolored, you can turn this in a more acceptable ambient of an icy cave.

Aesthetics - 3.35/5
It's a good level, but this need to be more polished. I think you can put the scenarios in best parts of the level. And switch the Flying Koopas per Flying Buzzy Beetles. And will be good if you recolor the fishes and the Piranha Plant in the water section. And if you remove some of the enemies. And if you add some more coins. And if you remove the cutoffs you find. Will be more pleasant.

Overall: 14/20 or 7/10

HenryRichard: You could use Terraria's Underground Snow music to fit the level. That's what I'm reccommending. Other than that, nice level :)
