This was actually a really good level except for all the horrible flaws.
Futuristicalish Land: REVAMPED (try saying that three times in a row)
DISCLAIMER: This level might be moved to Pretty Good (I actually can't believe it) because it is your contest level and bossedit8 (lo and behold) decided to give you a 7 for your level.
However, since this is a Revamped version, that means not the version you entered the contest with, I decided to judge it as a non-contest level, that's why I'm moving it according to MY score.
GFX: 5/10
I liked the Opelucid City gfx, I really did. What I didn't like though were the grey clouds that had mean eyebrows on them to make them look evil, some weird-ass yellow clouds that hardly resemble Pikachu faces, the fcking Pika-Goombas and the yellow Koopas that were really out of place.
Also the fact that after you kill all the blue Goombas and get on top of the town, there is grassland.... why????
I get that it's supposed to be a route outside of the city, but why is it on top of the town??
Poor design choices, olé!
Music: 7/10
The Opelucid theme was a good choice, but it got really repetitive after a while. I suggest changing up the music once you get to the second part of the level.
NPCs: 3/10
I hated the Pika-Goombas the second I saw them. Probably because the second I saw them was the second I had to react because SOMEONE DECIDED TO PROJECTILE THEM IN MY FUCKING FACE WITH NO WARNING AT ALL. How would ANYONE think this is a good design choice what so ever?
Of course, you, as the creator as the level, know that there are Pika-projectors ahead and have time to react.
Me, as the player of the level, however, DOESN'T.
And then it's not only that they are projected at you with approx. 60.000.000 m/ph, it's also the fact that they take up ALL THE SAVE SPACE YOU HAVE AFTER THE JUMP OVER THE GAP.
WHY.
Everyone who knows me knows that I don't like multiple Hammer Bros in one place or jumping/chasing Para-Koopas at all. Luckily for me, this level had both of them. En masse.
I also didn't like the pseudo-switch goombas. Why use the switch gimmick over and over again when you obviously KNOW how to use layers and events? Why not do something a little more creative?
Also someone obviously thought one mushroom for the whole level untill you get to the boss was enough. But guess what. IT'S NOT.
Gameplay: 3/10
After already wanting to ragequit when the first Pika-Goomba was projected directly into my face, this level didn't get better.
The grass part on top of the city was really out of place, so where the several rooms after the midway point, where you had to do the same thing over and over again:
Get the key, get to the exit, get the key, get to the exit, get the key, get to the exit. I don't know if anyone finds enjoyment in this because I don't.
ONLY TO THEN HAVING TO DO EVERY ROOM AGAIN TO KILL ALL THE RED GOOMBAS WHILE STILL HAVING TO GET THE KEY TO THE EXIT. WHY.
After that followed a boss with two poorly animated Lucarios that you have to fight at once, while they shoot auraspheres at you that are way to fast, while also having to dodge chasing bullet bills, while having to try to get the vegetables that appear on a seperated platform from the main fight platform, while also being concerned about the rising ocean levels and the global warming.
There is way too much going on in this fight at once. My suggestion would be to make this a fight with multiple phases. That way the player can actually get used to what's happening instead of having everything thrown in his face at once.
This could've been a good level. But it wasn't. 4.5/10, moved to average.
(also what about that Revamped in the title, I didn't see anything revamped or improved at all)
