Mechanical Mountain

It only took around 3 straight hours to make the level, but around 2 hours to make the graphics. Underwhelming, but I hope this level isn't! It's a mechanical-themed vertically-scrolling level based off my new factory/lab/mechanical tileset. There are a few never-before-seen gimmicks in this level, so enjoy!

I wonder what this does?

PS: It's a bit on the short side.

I remember you.

I remember you when your levels were really short, with NPC spam, clash and a large array of unfair jumps.

But you've changed.

You make your own GFX, you use great gimmicks and your levels are much longer with aesthetics beyond even the best level designers' abilities. You've learnt from your mistakes and edited levels and worked to the best of your ability. The music you choose for your levels fits well with the overall theme, and the jumps and NPC Placement are (like I always say!) Formidable but Fair. I think a few months of experience and designing and you could become a professional level designer.

I can tell you have the motivation and the patience to make a good level.

As for the level, the GFX are stunning and as for these "never before-seen" gimmicks, I think you also have the imagination. I look forward to playing and REVIEWING this level. Expect one soon.

Not gonna lie, that background is pretty...interesting. Maybe it looks better in the actual level, but the clouds and rocks look a little out of place....

Thanks, It's a drawing of my character, Valtries (although he's a wolf, not a fox XD [admins please change that]).

Anyway, now for the review.

Review: Mechanical Mountain by KoolKat

I enjoyed this level with it's gimmicks and it's music. The GFX was brilliant, but it was relatively short.

When I first opened the level in the editor, The first thing that came to my head was "Mind blown." The GFX was excellent, The music sounded like it came from a Wii Fit game (which fit really well, by the way) and the aesthetics are brilliant.

I enjoyed every moment of this level. Although it was just one section with a star at the top, It was impressive. It was relatively short, but it took a while to navigate and get used to the features. As for the gimmicks, You REALLY impressed me. I like the fact that the (censored) acted like (censored) to help ascending the tower. It was very impressive. in my opinion.

I like the way you recolored some GFX to keep consistency with theme, and you made sure that no piece of GFX didn't go with the theme. The way you used the graphics and changed them into something else that fit with the entire level was very impressive. I liked the coins and the way you used them so that they fit with everything else. I saw no flaws in this category.

The Music was good, and it sounded like it could come from a Wii Fit game, but it fit. You could have made the music sound a bit more mechanical, but that is not an important factor.

Score: 8/10

Status: Pretty Good

Summary

Nice level, detailed GFX, Music could have fit a bit more but overall, good job.

Your grade is B.

Thanks for the review! The music is actually the Chompworks Galaxy theme from SMG2 :P

Well, the level is a hybrid mountain/mechanical. I tried to add more clouds, but they were too glitchy so I kept the normal SMW Mountain over Metroid.

@bossedit8's Review - Mechanical Mountain - Level made by @KoolKat

Design Usage:
The whole design of getting a vertical Section that you have to go up and jumping on these Platforms and Note Blocks was a nice Idea. The graphics were very fitting especially that nearly everything was gray toned onto this Level. The background was very nice as it plays inside a Machine based Area but at the bottom there are Mountains but what I really should suggest that the whole Clouds wouldn't really existed because with Clouds around the Machine Area it is very weird to have on this Stage. Yeah, surely there is a way to have Clouds inside it but even that there are no Clouds or Fog at the foreground Area it seems unnecessary to have Clouds at the background too. Oh well. Another note by the Design that on the left it is mirrored to the right but on the right it isn't completly mirrored to the left because of a one Block strech but no matter anyway. The Level was very short though for just having one single vertical Section and no secrets to discover the Area for more variety of Exploring. The Music was a decent fit on this Level. Not much to complain about so it was good. At the end there is your Star.

NPC Placements:
A very decent amount of enemy placements we have here. Not all that bad but the whole Bullet Bill Generators from both the left and right side on a specific Room while jumping on those Note Blocks was a bit overkill. At least make it a little bit less but since this is a short Level anyway it does not matter all that much. At least put those Bullet Bill Generators on a place where a normal Block also can be placed and not at middle between regular Block placements like if you are using a Pipe and then a red Piranha Plant at the middle on it... so yeah, you shouldn't do that which makes it more unnecessary Room to dodge like at the Midway Point where regular standing while big (Super Mario) is useless. You have to duck or jump over it but into a clearer aspect, it isn't completly noticeable if you can just Stand still in order to dodge it. Enemy placements like Koopas and Goombas were alright. Nothing problematic related to that. Coin placements were decent enough like there are Areas that there are a lot of coins you can collect but others it seems a bit... empty. You can at least use a little, little bit more Coins around on these specific Areas where it looks empty without having them. Also there is one Coin which blocks a Bullet Bill Generator which isn't a very good way of blocking a Generator like that but this is also easy to not notice this little issue right here. The gimmick you used by those Platforms that are keep respawning from those 'X' Blocks was very clever. They do not hurt you and they aren't pushing you around but the death effect isn't completly natural because it has a regular Super Metroid explosion. You can at least recolor them to gray so they can also fit eachother like that. Still it was very Clever how you used those Rinkas as Platforms that aren't really pushovers to the Players.

Overall Rating Score: 6.975

It was a nice idea by having a Level worked like that especially with the newly gimmicks on those Rinkas but a bit too short and a few Generators that are a bit too much of a pushover.

Edit: Moved to Pretty Good!

level was great. Here's a helpful suggestion. Make the NPCs look like robots lol, it should fit the theme nicely
