Expanded SMB2-styled Lava (VERSION 2)

Postby silent_ » Sat Jul 26, 2014 7:00 pm

So, version two was a pain to make, and finally it's done! I fixed a few things.

CHANGELOG:
-Fix thinness on a slope that somebody pointed out
-Added red
-Fixed 8-bitness (I'm not sure if it's still 8-bit but it certainly shouldn't be)

Screenshot (VERSION 2):
Spoiler: show

Hope you can find a good use out of this, and there will be a tileset going along with this coming soon, but it will likely be a recolor with a few edits because I still haven't mastered making a custom tileset from scratch.

(P.S. If you see cut-off in the screenshot, this is because I suck at using lava and I for some reason can't use it without having trouble.)

It seems that is 8bits.

Yeah, I kind of noticed that. It's likely because SMB2's orange colors are all very similar. Unfortunately, I can't do anything about this unless someone volunteers.

It's definitely 16 bit, but the lower right slope seems a bit.. idk... thin? Maybe you could fix that? Besides that, good work!

Thanks for the feedback!

I will fix the thin part tomorrow when I make a tileset to go with this.

You had a nice idea with this, but i suggest you, to also use red tones for the color, so it is less bright. But it's right, there are even colors in SMB1 and SMB2, that are the exact same, as i found out some days ago (talking about a brown color), so it can be hard to do a recolor.

I really like to see, what the tileset will be like, that you like to do. Good luck on it :-).

Thanks! I'm grateful to get some feedback from a famous person.

Also, the tileset might end up just being another recolor including some edits.

Most 8bit tiles and sprites usually have a maximum of three colors per tile/sprite. This lava only has three colors: red, yellow, and orange.

This is indeed 8bit.

It looks 8-bit because there are two shades of orange that look incredibly similar.

I will fix this.

Cool expansion Idea, needed some expanded Smb2 Lava sets for smbx I guess, also 8-bits not bad there are a couple of 8-bits expansions/total conversion gfx packs and this would fit with them nice. Also a 16 bit version would be more appealing to everyone as a whole most likely.

Nice Job.

Hot damn, that's some nice-looking lava! I might use this for a level in the future.

^

Not to mention that Sednaiur made his own lava, so uh...

Edit: After downloading this myself, I can say that I'd rather use Sednaiur's lava, no offense. This lava is just poorly-recolored SMB3 lava.
