The theme of the contest

The contest is about custom graphics and originality. Ripping a tileset or graphic from an already existing game and porting it to SMBX doesn't require much imagination, and I've always thought custom made tilesets are best for creating varied environments and making the levels look fresh. So, with this contest, I'm promoting the use of custom tilesets in levels and originality.

How the contest will be run

The participants send me a sample level showing the tileset(s) they've made. After about 20 days from now, I will send the contest entries to the judges of this contest. The judge team will be comprised of people who are experienced graphic designers for SMBX. The level's score will be determined based on:

1. Its originality. The tilesets should stand out from the default SMBX ones and look like they can be used in levels with varied themes.
2. The detail put into it. Attention to detail always pays off, especially when you want your tileset to be as unique as possible. This means you should use an unique texture for your tiles and vary them as much as you can.
3. The style and palette of the tileset. You should make sure the tileset still fits with the SMBX content and doesn't belong to a completely different style. This shouldn't be very restrictive as you can easily see whether your level fits with the other SMBX graphics or not.

What will happen after the contest

After I publish the results, I will take all the tilesets that received a score higher than 7 and create a graphic pack that will be distributed on the forum. The people who made the tilesets will obviously be credited for it. If you don't want your tileset to be included in the pack, I will respect your decision.

Rules and regulations

- You are not allowed to distribute your tileset before the judges finish reviewing. You may show screenshots of it, but make sure others don't copy your style.
- You must include the graphics and the sample level in a zip archive and send it to me via Private Message.
- The sample level does not have to be completable or showcase any gameplay.
- You are free to use other graphics besides the tileset to complement it and create an original environment. However, you must have at least one tileset made by you in your entry.

I'd like to judge this. But then again I guess it won't hurt to make a graphic.
