I thought they really started looking nice in gen 5. The pokemon began to get epic in gen 4. So my favorite is Black/White.

Though shouldn't this be part of the pokemon topic?

X/Y has a better plot than Red/Blue, but story isn't everything.

I think you should us check off multiple games honestly. I enjoyed gen 4 and gen 3 equally so its hard for me to pick

I may also prefer Mystery Dungeon Explorers to any of the main games, but HeartGold & SoulSilver are my favorite of the main series, followed by Black & White and then Black & White 2.

I really don't understand the hate towards Smogon. Nobody's forcing you to use their ruleset, and if you actually take a look at their community it's not all that elitist. Some things, like one hit kill moves and Double Team, kill competitive play simply by virtue of being completely based on random chance, while Pokémon like Mega Lucario and Mega Kangaskhan are simply too powerful for use in the main OverUsed tier. The banned moves are not banned for being overpowered, however, they're banned for being based on random chance which does not support a competitive ruleset.

see: phantom assassin
see: many other heroes/items from dota 2 (lone druid, faceless void, butterfly and skull basher come to mind)
see: highest competitive video game prize pool ever (10 million dollars)

edit: On topic, my favourite game is probably either b/w2 or x/y.
But i also really like gens 2 and 3.
Red/Blue and Diamond/Pearl are my least favourite.

My favorite is definitely Emerald. Man, that takes me back to my childhood. Hoenn region has always been my favorite. Also, Emerald is pretty much Ruby and Sapphire, but with a better story line. I liked how they included both Team Aqua and Team Magma. Also, the Battle Frontier addition was really cool. So yeah. Go Emerald.
