I made this level back in the days of the NSMBX Forums. I haven't changed it at all....

This level reminds me of confectionary more then anything else, nor do I remember seeing this, but this definitely looks more well designed then Spin Town.

I thought I might as well post my early review of this level.

Review: Magmatic Cave by KoolKat

Design:8.6/10.0

The level design was good, but i did see some flaws in colour as the mixed colours were sort of confusing to my eyes. I also found the secret exit but that kinda spoiled the entire level seeing as you come out of an unpleasant volcano cave into an "oh, i wanna live here forever" world. That is mostly why the score went down.

Music 4.5

The music wasnt very fiiting in with a magma cave. My choice would have been the NSMBU Volcano Theme, Or the NSMBU Underground Volcano BGM. And the music in the secret goal was good, which is why it didn't reach 3. But the fact that there was no custom music disappionts me. I LOVE using Custom Music in my levels. Although i'm surprised by the score, I think there should be more effort in terms of music. But then again, it wasn't bad.

NPC Placement: 10/10

I barely ever give even a score CLOSE to 10 in this category. the NPCs were placed in an absolutely brilliant way, making the level formidable, but fair. Your enemies went well with the theme, and i won't even ask how you got that saw to actually stay in one place at one time. However, the koopas were kind of confusing, the yellow one stays on the same level every time unless theres a ramp, but the red one falls offcliffs into the lava. It's not the best thing, but i won't mark you down for that, as it doesnt really matter.

CGFX: 10/10 :ugeek:

U must be a proffesor at this, how do you make the CGFX so good? The graphics made my eyes burst. i was so interested by how this level was gonna turn out, that i started by focusing my eyes on the tlesets and graphics, so i could get an idea of what the level would be like. It blew my mind. And i saw the level and was like, "wow, amazing" and I obviously WAS RIGHT. Because this level was so good, it got what it deserved.

Gameplay: 8.5/10.0

I like the way you mixed a sort of magma set with underwater set, but i didnt think that it really helped anyone get any further in the level. I really enjoyed this level, but i have to mark you down for that.

Overall: 8.32/10.0

This level was the best level i ever played in my life, and i'm a level designer, although i dont really make cgfx. Brilliant level.

Peace!

I really liked the palette color you use with mainly warm colors. The secret was well hidden ( which is good) but, I find it strange to have clouds inside of cave XD. Other than that, you done a great job for your level! :D

This level wasn't too bad but I have to say a couple of things about it:
- I didn't like the enemy placement that much: you had placed an enemy after almost every warp pipe right in front of the pipe
- Also the level is that long that I think a checkpoint would be nice
- I think it's not good to have a goomba to tell you about the red coins as people think that goombas are enemies. How about a toad?

Initially...
whoa

Generally...
Really neat level, the best one I've played by you. I liked the red-and-orange atmosphere, but I'm not the first to say that having clouds in a cave is downright bad, because clouds aren't inside, and caves are inside. Also, the fact that you have Goombas coming right at you at the beginning is unfair, and additionally, you shouldn't have enemies coming to kill you right when you exit the pipe. You just don't have much of a before-warning and you're forced to move. Oh, and the music. It didn't fit the underground volcano vibe you were going for. I recommend you use something like the NSMB Volcano Underground or the Wii/Wii U Grumble Volcano from Mario Kart. Either of those would fit very well, and in the section of the secret exit, the music was fine, and it's not worth wasting lots of megabites for a theme that the player won't even hear for ten seconds, so you were wise about that. Regardless, we also have the what I call "clusterment". I did NOT like the placement for the background objects, and it just felt way too much. For starters, the clouds are unnecessary, and the colossal amount of sizables in the first section are unnecessary. Anyways, I don't like how a Goomba, which are supposed to be Mario's main foe, tells Mario that he should find all three red coins to escape. How about a Toad? Or more fittingly, how about a Pink Bob-omb? That's just my recommendations. And you can go over over the boundaries in a few instances if you have the correct power-up. Lastly, the differently-colored platform that you can go through from under has a dark maroon outlining. It only fits the level if it has a black outlining.

Pros...
-epic atmosphere
-awesome palette
-pretty good variety of enemies
-pretty decent pipe placement
-superb coin placement; it's just right
-okay question block and brick placement
-tricky but gettable secret exit
-good slope placement
-unique little thing with having lava in the water
-okay replay value
-clever red coin hiding spots

Cons...
-clouds in a cave, what the hell?
-enemies coming right at you at the beginning and when you exit pipes
-you can go over the wall if you have the right power-up; no points will be taken off for this, though
-very clustered feel with background objects and enemies
-the differently-colored platform has a dark-maroon outlining; minor but worth pointing out
-misplaced talking Goomba; try a pink Bob-omb or Toad
-bad music
-first section had too many unnecessary sizables; tone it down, please

Other Notes/Questions
dun't fuk whit tat sawblade or itll giv u a seizure

Overall...
7.5

I really wanted to give you an eight, but it don't think it quite got there due to there being some big flaws here. Overall, however, great level.

And to anyone who takes me too seriously sometimes: Don't think that sawblade actually gave me a seizure, because it didn't, and if it did, I would not have reviewed this level.

Thanks for the review :)

Anyway, the clouds are supposed to represent steam and gases rising from the lava and I was originally going to use a different track (Grumble Volcano Remix + echo effect) but it wouldn't save properly so I released it with the closest vanilla music there was.

Here's some replies:

-The saw looks like that for a reason; it's actually named the Seizure Saw :P
-The level was meant to be 4-4 in Shadow Epidemic. World 4 is the deep underground world. The secret exit leads right to Twin Mountains Island, where Worlds 7-11 are. The game was going to have 16 worlds, each with 7 levels, not including castles and fortresses. I'll bet you can tell why I cancelled it.
-I forgot to mention that the Goomba shows up later, and helps you fight Larry Koopa at the end of Shadow Epidemic. He shows up once in each world. I forgot to use the actual graphic for him though.
