What are your thoughts on Tor and the world of the onion (Deep Web)?
My brief summary -
If you guys aren't aware, Tor is the anonymity network used by many people to protect themselves from surveillance, from organizations like the NSA. Tor is used to access the Deep Web, a place where webpages aren't indexed, so regular browsers like Chrome or Internet Explorer cannot find that content, instead you have to use the software Tor. You can access sites that you could access using browsers like Google Chrome but it'd be advised that you don't access or input anything that can be linked to your personal life like email, social networking, you get the idea!
Its interesting that we have access to less than 10% of the total Internet, the Surface Web which is what we use on a daily basis (well most of us anyways) only accounts for about 19 terabytes of information while the Deep Web accounts for 7,500 terabytes. Now of course their is some bad stuff on the Deep Web like child porn, hitman for hire services, illicit drug vendor networks like the Silk Road and other content. Not everything that you can find on the Deep Web is bad, there are some good, helpful and interesting things to read on there. Anyways, if you want to learn more about Tor read this article - Tor! And if you want to try to check Tor out for yourselves go ahead, see what you can find in the world of the Onion, but be cautious and secure.

Sorry about that guys. I thought many of you would be aware about Tor and the Deep Web since it has made a big impact, but I guess not. It's okay, I provided a brief summary on what it is and included two links in which you can find out more information about the current subject. There is much more I could tell you, there really is so much information about the Deep Web, it'd take so much time to summarize everything. Just Google a few things and you should learn more about it too.
Oh and GhostHawk, hold it there! I wouldn't advise using Tor torrent in such, as would all other users of the Tor network. I haven't really seen many sites that involve torrents on the Deep Web, none at all actually. There are plenty of illegal things on there as I describe in the brief summary. I'm not sure if you know what the Silk Road is but its one of the most known things on there, its pretty interesting and illegal at the same time. Most people don't truly know the Internet, and I could bet money on that.

Your fun fact is correct. However that "Edit" is completely irrelevant. I have been on the Silk Road dozens of times, you know to see what on it (out of curiosity). None of the that content is present, with the exclusion of the drugs part. The Silk Road is technically the "Amazon.com of drugs" As for the mutilated children, no there is nothing like that on the Silk Road on that level, maybe on other sites on the Deep Web I would be sure of it but not on the Silk Road. There used to be a part of the Silk Road that was called the Armory which is where they sold weapons, however that was removed. Although guns are no longer on the Silk Road I'm sure there are other sites that make weapons available. I will tell you that well the original owner of the original Silk Road (DPR a.k.a.( was arrested the site was seized and apparently the users like the one prior, however as of present day Silk Road 2.0 is open. DDOS attacks on .onion sites are regular.
Anyways, back to the subject at hand. Many of the bad sites for good gracious have been taken down which is a good thing - porn sites, drug markets, fake IDs sites, gun sites, that sort of thing. Many of them have been removed but I'm afraid their will always be thousands more. The Hidden Wiki is a good place to take a look at some of the sites on the Deep Web and please don't be all clicky clicky, don't be clicky friendly.

anyways, ive read things about the deep web but never have been on it myself, i dont see any use for it, its easier to buy drugs guns and sex slaves offline imo
Shade, these things (mutilated children, AIDS on a Needle) weren't very common in the Silk Road and such only appeared occasionally. It's not a very common thing to see out there for sale, specially because it's so hard to hide a multilated human for so long without being arrested.

The Deep Web is full of child abuse sites so I wouldn't be surprised if there was a place where they sold mutilated children and even adults. Silk Road 1.0 and 2.0 have had very strict policies against things of mass destruction, child pornography and things that could hurt another individual. If there is a rule against selling such things don't you think someone has probably tried to sell those things on there. So you might be right that they have appeared there before michel, I haven't seen anything like that when I have been on the Silk Road. Its a serious thing that people have attempted to sell those types of things on there.

We are not discussing the mutilation of children. We simply mentioned it is an ongoing activity within the Deep Web and that's not discussing mutilation. The only thing we are discussing is thoughts and facts about the Deep Web and there is nothing bad about that.

Thanks for posting this. I too saw his video just a few days after he put it up on YouTube. This guy is very good at explaining more about the Deep Web and he takes you in to some of the Deep Web sites like the Hidden Wiki. He has made a lot of good videos btw.
