Mario Level Editing Games

Postby Anphiba » Wed Jun 11, 2014 11:37 pm

If you know what game this is, then you're ok. If not, Look below.
Super Mario Flash/ Super Mario Flash 2 - a simple level editing game made by a person named Pouetpu.
I was just curious, If there was anyone that has played Super Mario Flash before you knew about SMBX, and you discovered SMBX.
Which game did you know first?
What game felt better to play? I know everyone's probably gonna say SMBX, but whatever...
Have you played Super Mario Flash since you started playing SMBX?

Tell me EVERYTHING...

You should probably put Lunar Magic in there, theres a huge community when it comes to making levels for Super Mario World with that program. Though i guess its probably different since the editor itself doesnt run the levels (the SMW rom does). But still, that's one of my first experiences with Mario level editors, along with Mario Worker. That game was awesome!

I know every Mario Editor you have listed but what I am only using right now is Mario Builder and SMBX. Earlier I used Mario Constructor Forever, that game was good because it was better than Mario Worker. At the very beginning I used Super Mario Flash at 2007 which I did liked back then.

I used Mario Worker before but that failed horribly because even know the game works quite a bit, it does not let me save files which is... strange. Used a Windows XP with it.

Yeah I used Lunar Magic and Super Mario Flash a bit before discovering SMBX, but I mainly created levels for Super Mario 63. I was a somewhat prominent member of that community back in those days (under this name, mainly in the IRC on the forums), before the creator got his own site even, and there was a Freeforums board without its own domain. Whenever I mentioned it on the later forums, I felt like such a crotchety old man. Then, later on, I discovered SMBX and pretty much abandoned that community abruptly. I felt kind of bad.

I didn't know that Super Mario 63 has even it's own forum and Irc Community. I probably didn't checked that well enough because I did discovered Super Mario 63 with it's own Level Editor but didn't worked all that long enough next to Super Mario Flash (2).

An interesting thing to note, after I had started dabbling in Lunar Magic, my first ideas were to "port" the levels I had made in Mario Worker to Mario World, just to see how they'd look. It was very fun. Has anyone else done this or something similar?

Someone care to provide context for these poll options?

I'm not gonna immediately know what you're talking about by saying, "OH. IT'S THAT MARIO BUILDER THING." I'm just gonna go, "Which one?"

To tell the truth, I think SMBX is the best level editing Mario game that I have ever played.
I used to play Super Mario Flash, and I even have an account for the website!!
I dunno I think I'm banned because I never used it...
Well that sucks, because I'm more interested in SMBX.

they can be considered more "hacking devices" than level editors.

also this "oh wait smbx community" bullshit is getting annoyng, if you don't like the "smbx community" that much then leave it.

I started out with Mario Flash. It was pretty amazing being the only Mario editor I knew of at the time, but I switched over to Mario Builder once I got curious and decided to see if there was anything more powerful. It certainly is, and it has a lot of options to offer. However, many of them are buggy, the game itself is laggy, and the physics are uncomfortable and weird.

But then, they began talking about SMBX in the comments, and in late 2009 my adventures with it began. It was incredible just being able to use MP3s, resize sections as much as I want, and use more sections than I'll ever need. I'm especially glad I found it when I did, because then Mario Builder implemented warp and custom graphics systems that are needlessly complicated compared to the simplicity of SMBX. That really wasn't worth trying to learn.

The only other one I ever tried out was Mario Worker, and I couldn't get into it. It was very uncomfortable and limited to work with in every single way, and I'd already discovered Flash and Builder before it so I had no real need to fiddle with it much.

Yeah I made a couple of levels with Lunar Magic but they were complete shit, since I didn't really know what made a good level at the time.

Also, Lunar Magic is objectively more powerful than SMBX is, although SMBX is LOADS easier to use and much more intuitive. That's why it became popular.

Well yeah!!! Duh, of course i'm getting banned from the site because I made an account i dont use anymore, and I wasted the memory of the site.
So It was pointless to ditch it and leave it there, so they deleted it.
So, technically, I was banned.
Lol
