How did you discover SMBX?

I recently thought about this question, after realizing how old SMBX really is. The existence of it has spanned so long that some people who are into it now might've not even been born when it first came out. So I come to you all: how exactly did you discover SMBX, and do you recall the year that you did?
For me, I remember Googling "Mario level editor" back as a kid, because at the time I absolutely loved the idea of creating things for games (and I still do but y'know... life gets in the way, can't do it 24/7 anymore) and SMBX was at the top of the search results. I think this was somewhere in late 2013 to early 2014? I'm not exactly sure.

Mario Maker pre-release phase, so either in late 2014 or early 2015. Since I did not own a Wii U myself, I scoured the Internet for a free alternative, saw one of those Boss Rush videos that were pretty big at the time and sort of... ended up here!

I think i found SMBX when i was about a freaking toddler; my dad just supposedly bought me my first ever computer. I vividly renember it was a Windows 7 and, right now, its probably cranky and broken. *sigh* Life does have some cons afterall...
Welp, anyways, off that 10 year old computer, i truly knew it since it popped in my youtube feed page in 2015; (2 years old btw) i think i got hooked in playing SMBX when i saw those few boss rushes; one of them has a blue nipper that is essentialy a wart plopped with a nipper plant and the other one was actually the more popular; i renember it vividly of the same thing as YI's Final Boss. (both are probably recorded by bossedit8 but i don't know if these two are the same thing) i also renember making world maps and random levels as it was just fun to play/create. I for some reason the cave tiles are always frozen (the graphics you can find in the TI2's second ice level)

I used to have it on an old DELL computer (which was shared by me and my brother) with Windows XP Home Edition.

I discovered a it few years ago while searching for GIFs of custom NPCs from this game for ideas to add to a hypothetical mod I wanted to make for SMM2 (Yeah I was a bit ambitious). I finally got it about a year ago sometime in November.

Searching for Mario games online, discovered the OG Site that hosted a couple of them which ironically was how I also got into SM63 back then.
Found out they had a forum, joined that place and was one of the first people back then to have downloaded the first ever released Version of SMBX back then.
Wild to imagine I've been trying to move away for so many times and it's been 15 Years now that I'm part of SMBX as a whole.

I was looking for a Mario Editor around late 2013-early 2014. For the first few weeks of finding a Mario Editor, I was playing Super Mario Flash. Then I saw WiiLikeToPlay's playthrough of Invasion 2. I started playing SMBX one day after my 13th birthday.
I knew about SMBX's existence for a while but didn't know what it was until I saw WiiLikeToPlay's playthrough of Invasion 2. I recall watching a ton of other episode playthroughs and boss rush videos. I... might've found either NSMBX or Knux's forums by accident a few months earlier.

Huh... my father was the one who discovered SMBX and he downloaded it because he thought I would like this game. It was during 2014 or 2015(?), and during those years I used to love those crappy online flash mario games. He probably found this game because SMBX was at its peak (I think many iconic 1.3 episodes were released during 2014). I was a kid when I first played this game, so I died many times in TI2 and my first custom levels where very Little Timmy-ish
What am I doing here if I don't feel like making levels anymore?

A pretty big Nintendo Let's Player did a LP of SMBX which I was fascinated by.
I then started playing SMBX pretty soon after I got my PC.

i. think? i saw a trailer for it around 2013 or so, which got me to download it. i don't think i was actively looking for a mario level editor at the time considering i was already pretty satisfied with mario flash 1 and 2. don't exactly know what prompted me to download it instead of mario builder despite the fact that i knew about that before smbx, but i'm glad i did
technically i found out about it from the original supermariobrothers.org domain, but i never paid attention to smbx itself at the time because i really only used that website for the flash games and other downloads lol

When I was like 9 or 10 I enjoyed flash games a lot, at some point that led me to happening upon the original website SMBX was on. Basically I watched a lot of gameplay videos on it and ended up playing it myself. Fun fact: this game led me to discovering Terraria as well, which has claimed over 2,000 hours of my life...

Must have been like 2011 or 2012, I only had access to NSMB for the DS as I was only 7 years old and I had a desktop running windows XP. I saw the trailer for one of the really old versions and I wanted to download the game. Didn't know how to use custom episodes either so it was just The Invasion 2, battle mode, and the legacy editor.
Fast forward to 2013 and my family ditched the desktop for a Mac, and I couldn't play anymore since there wasn't a port to the mac at the time (dont know if there still is besides using wine tbh). The mac was trash after a few years and we got a new desktop, and the first thing I did was re-install SMBX; this time I knew how to import custom episodes.
Now its 2024 and i'm still looking for custom episodes

There is in fact a port for 1.3 now (It's called TheXTech) but you still need to use wine for X2.
As for episode suggestions, try looking here:
viewtopic.php?t=29493
And for how I discovered it, I was aware of it since 2012 (boss rushes and chased by a giant thing) and tried downloading in 2018(?) failed, seeing 38a in 2022/2023, couldn't get custom stuff to work, moved to X2 in 2023, and been there ever since.

Overall, if it wasn't for Dante19977 and Mario Forever, I would have never known SMBX. I remember looking for videos about Mario Forever on YouTube in 2016.And that's how I found Dante19977's channel, which, apart from Mario Forever, also had SMBX. I was very interested in it and watched a lot of it. But a few years later Dante19977 announced a break. Then my interest in it faded a bit and I started to get more interested in Minecraft. After about 2 years it just stopped being interesting for me and Dante also went back to recording. In 2023 I installed SMBX2 and started playing a lot and also became more interested in the community of this game. In June 2024 I started making my own episode and learning LunaLUA. And as of today I have it almost finished, I'm just fixing some bugs

I can't say I remember exactly how, but I was really into Mario Level Editors in general, and mainly used SMB Level Master before eventually discovering SMBX in late 2010, not too long before the 1.3 Update.
I think I first found it on the now-defunct site "supermariobrothers.org" or something like that. Might've even been one of the predecessors to this site, idk, I was like 12 lmao
