[SMBX2] Mushroom Kingdom Disarray - Demo is out now!

After many years I came back to create in SMBX. This time I want to focus on making a good episode and I came with idea to start making it entirely in SMAS SMB1 style (with some things derived from other games, but heavily styled on that style though). Demo is designed for SMBX 2.0 beta 4 or newer, however full version will require at least Beta 5.

Project is called Mushroom Kingdom Disarray (which may change in future, however I like the way it looks).

Positions with asterisk (*) has been added to full version and are not available in demo.

- Features a faithful SMAS SMB1 style graphics with little flavors,
- Features eight worlds*, and three worlds in current demo,
- Features custom HUD based on SMAS SMB1 while keeping item reserve box,
- Features starcoin system (three in each level),
- Time is limited in most levels,
- Features many secrets hidden behind the walls. That would be worth of exploring!
- Features custom, beautiful world map reminding SMAS SMB1 style with additions of SMW,
- Features four switch palaces which will reveal or hide blocks of correponding color adjacent to switch palace,
- Every level has unique style!
- Uses only SMW styled music in *.spc format,
- Features custom widescreen resolution in both levels and the world map*,
- Brand new, modern looking HUD with item box which spwans powerups next to player instead of dropping them from top*,
- New pause menu with SMB1 style*,

STORY:

Once upon a time in the Mushroom Kingdom, Bowser hatched a diabolical plan to seize control. With a menacing grin on his face, he plotted to kidnap not only the beloved Princess Peach but also her father, the wise and just King Toadstool. Bowser knew that without these two leaders, the kingdom would be thrown into chaos, leaving him to reign supreme.

To make matters worse, Bowser dispatched a squadron of formidable airships to terrorize the peaceful kingdom. As the menacing vessels approached, the people of Mushroom Kingdom trembled in fear, knowing that the fate of their land hung in the balance.

But there was one hero who refused to let Bowser's evil scheme succeed - Mario. With determination etched on his face, the brave plumber set out on a perilous mission to rescue the kidnapped King and Princess, and put a stop to Bowser's tyranny once and for all.

Well, I plan to release a small demo containing three worlds as not much work left to finish it. I might be ready until end of this year if I will get some motivation to work further.

Yea, SMB1 style is highly underrated, but it gives a really good graphics style. Maybe it is caused by limited resources to find on web compared to SMB3 and SMW where are a ton of resources for those styles. So I came with idea to not only make entirely SMB1 episode, but also to make every level somewhat unique in appearance.

Currently there are only default ones, but I thought to add some powerups to the episode such as: penguin, squirrel and boomerang. It might be possible, but there would be a lot of work to make custom sprites for Mario to match style of graphics. Most propably I'll stand at regular powerups only.

This looks great! SMB1 styled episodes are not very common, let alone really good looking ones like this one.

For now it only has three worlds, including three bosses.

Let me know if you find some critical issues. Also any feedback is highly appreciated, along with any ideas for further development of episode. As demo is released now I can start working on World 4.

This is fixed version of demo which removes unnecessary platforms, fix missing effect GFX and make some hidden starcoins more obvious.

I loved your episode demo! The levels are well made (I liked level 3-4 the most). I'm waiting for the release version!

Episode got some updates, including a new, widescreen resolution! Thanks to Beta 5 update it is possible now.

World map got revamped tileset (mainly for reasons of better workflow), but I kept that as closest as possible in terms of prevoius version.

I designed a new HUD to fit new resolution better and item box now spawns items next to player instantly.
