There have been so many SMB3 remakes at this point that I think you should go SMB2. However, remakes are often frowned upon now.

You should go with new levels design, but keep the gameplay and design similar to the original. Also keep the worlds in their same order of themes (ie world 1 grass, 2 desert, 3 grass, 4 ice, ect).

I'd play neither. Why make remakes in this day and age when not only have they been ran into ground as a concept and when you have so many tools in your disposal to create something original?
