For the record, I created a switch different from the one seen in SM64DS: The Star Switch.
Unlike the Star Switch in SM64DS, it can be carryable and it can be used to go anywhere. When you see a spot where a Star is nowhere, you stomp on the Star Switch and the star appears. If the Star disappears, you can try again. The Star Switch can be used when a event is activated.
