Hi. This a passion project I have been working on for a while. As the title says, it's just a collection of levels that are strung together in an episode format. There are main 24 levels in the episode. The episode is geared towards more experienced people in SMBX. This a 1 player episode only.
A wide variety of assets have been used in this episode. Everyone who has had their work used in the episode have been credited. If something is missing credit and/or wrongly credited let me ASAP on Discord (my tag is zlaker) or leave a reply telling me. Every level folder has a .txt file detailing the work from every creator + a global .txt file in the main folder.
Special thanks to Aristo, Darknonius64, Enjl, snoruntpyro & Waddle for helping me with the project.
Download
I recommend using a good PC when playing this, laptops can be very finnicky. Use the latest version of SMBX 2.0, Beta 5.
Main download link includes the patched version of the episode. If you have an older version, just take the contents of the patch folder and put into the episode folder.
Pretty cool, might try it out! The team did a wonderful job no doubt about that. I think this is a good introduction for someone inexperienced with smbx2, judging by the screenshots
Not to be over-the-top but I'm eight levels deep and these are easily the best SMBX levels I've played. So many nutty gimmicks and crazy implementations. I remember playing some levels of yours some six or seven years ago and it was the first time I had been exposed to lua and I remember being amazed at what you could do with it even back then and now you're blowing my mind with how far you can push this engine all over again.
The main issues is that, if all the issues were fixed, this would easily be a 9/10 episode
1. Some dragon coins were simply just not fun to get (-0.5 points)
2. Also. I got softlocked in two of the levels and that wasn't really fun to deal with (-1 point)
3. It is kind of tedious that there's no option to select the checkpoint where you can start from (-0.5 points)
But other than that, this is an incredibly solid episode with creative design and I highly recommend it as this is the 13th best smbx episode imo that I have played.
Thanks for the kind words. Currently working on a patch that I'll release this week. What levels were you soft locked in?
The captain toad section softlocks you if you enter the saw room small.
I don't recall where it is but theres a part right after a midpoint, if you jump over the pipe without entering it you get softlocked. It's in part 2 of my playthrough so its somewhere in levels 11-21
In 8:44 in your 3rd video, Boarding The Dreadnought Battleship, since captain Toad can't jump, he can't grab the vine/rope.
You are talking about 7:22 in your 2nd video, Vacant Shipwreck, the one where you couldn't make a 5-block jump back up next to the pipe.
Also in 1:08:34 in your 1st video, Surveillance Stronghold, after the checkpoint before the green switch, the warp of the door seems misplaced (not in editor, but in the actual game) according to you.
Looks great, thanks for this episode! That said, I can't even get past the first cow level collecting the milk. I'm completely stuck at the screen with those pink flashy blocks and have no idea what the dotted-line goomba blocks do haha. Is there a walkthrough?
A new patch has been released addressing some issues namely the difficulty and unseen softlocks. Lot of setups and puzzles have been made easier and I've added in a checkpoint select feature. You can only acccess it once you've beaten a main level.
Drag the contents of the patch folder and put it in the normal episode folder.
Main topic has been updated with a new link as well.
Another patch that fixes an oversight with the checkpoint system for Robotics;Toybox & SMW Masterrace - Rinkas;Gost Cotlse. Main topic has been updated as well with new versions.
How do you get the fourth dragon coin in Infiltrate the Ninji Fortress?
EDIT: I also don't see an option to skip to a checkpoint, even after I've beaten a level
EDIT 2: I found the option. It's unhelpful
It'd be very nice if there was a preview of the checkpoint and the area around it. There is space for it.
EDIT 4: If your level has eight checkpoints and it's not a massive super-postgame "everything" level, then there's something clearly wrong and you need to rethink everything. 0/10 see me after class.
Wait, WHAT!? The download was moved to the recycle bin of zlaker's Drive? Dang...
Download link has been fixed + updated with a few more fixes, I'll be releasing the checkpoint preview patch later today after I'm done with university.
Checkpoint previews have been added. And Dragon Coins no longer go unsaved when closing the engine window. They will be automatically be saved forever upon collecting them. Small bugs I missed have been fixed too.
Sick, also one more thing can I use the menu selection system that you have in your episode?
You can use the graphic assets, but the menu code (along with most of the code I've written for this episode) was written for this specific episode and not for public release.
