It's good to have a plan!
I keep a project bible, containing everything from level plans to storylines. It has helped me to sort of have an aerial view of the forest so that I don't get lost in the trees, because that is easy to do when you're building your episode one step at a time.
The other thing to remember is that usually, there's going to be no one to motivate you except yourself. People post tons of cool things on the forum or discord, stuff that blows me away, but most will get little to no comment. It's not bc no one will care or be amazed with what you do, but there's simply a lot of "unfinished gems" and for someone to really appreciate your creation they'll have to the full experience of it.
The advice I've seen is good: create something that makes you happy, and you'll always have the desire to keep coming back to it until finally you have a creation to give to the world. Good luck!
