Carol T. and the Turnip Prince

Hi there! This is an old project of mine that I found in my old laptop after fixing it recently. I used to work on it quite frequently back then, but never got to finish nor announce it. I got busy with college/work and then the laptop just broke around 2017. It was supposed to be a puzzle/RPG adventure and I had a lot of ambitious plans and ideas for it, but again, life happens and I never got the chance to continue.

However, I've always been very proud of what I've done for the Prologue! And that's why I decided to at least share with you guys what I've done and see what you think. I don't think I will ever come back to that, but who knows, right? I'm sorry for the English in the dialogues though, this is not my first language and I was not very good at the time.

So, let's get to it!


A Turnip From the Skies
The story was supposed to follow Carol T. (named just like the Toads from Paper Mario, to sound like "carrot"), a young farmer from Edwind Island, a place far west from Mushroom Kingdom mainland who one day, while helping her village during the harvest, receives a strange gift from the sky: a talking turnip! Turns out this turnip is Prince Loff, the young Mushroom Kingdom prince who got transformed into a turnip by Kamek, the Magikoopa. Now, Carol T. and Prince Loff need to team up to get back to Toad Town and fix the mess caused by Kamek.

But Mario is Missing
So you might be asking, who are those characters and why there is no Mario on it? Well, at the time I've decided to focus on original characters or characters rarely seen, like Kamek. It was supposed to take place some time before Mario adventures, in a Mushroom Kingdom from the past. That's why there's a prince instead of Princess Peach and so on.

A Single Screen System
The game is divided into separated screens, never rolling to follow the player as he walks. This is purely aesthetical, because I wanted to create something more focused. I know it might play a bit weird, but again, it is just an aesthetical choice, just move to the border of the screen to advance.

The story and the screenshots look interesting! I love to see projects where Mario Bros aren't in the spotlight! I'll give a try to this!

While testing it on the latest version of SMBX, I've realised that the game is not working as intended and lot of things are broken, unfortunately.

So please, for everyone who's interested on playing it, use the SMBX 2.0 Beta 3 version instead, which was the one I've used to build the project. Meanwhile, I will try to fix it for the latest version, but I'm not sure if I remember how to do it.

So, I've managed to fix it after a while. Now it can properly be played on SMBX latest version without issues.
