How to make 1UPS more IMPORTANT?

I'm not good at the settings stuff in this, so I don't know how to do this but
how do I make 1UPS more important? (or have an impact at all)
I believe the 'restart last level' thing works but that messes up the autostart events so I don't use it.
side question: is there at least an alternative to autostart events?

Most game developers remove 1-Ups from their games in recent days and even some SMBX projects get rid of the idea.
I don't think it would be a good idea to make them more important (unless you're making an arcade-styled episode) as the extra live mechanic isn't very popular anympore.

Just call the events from lunalua onStart:
function onStart()
triggerEvent("nameOfEvent1")
triggerEvent("nameOfEvent2")
end

Remove the life system, and make 1ups equal 50 or 100 coins in a shop.

By the way, if you are one of the people who argue that having lifes makes the player more careful:
How about rewarding the player for beating a level without deaths instead? This way a new player won't be overwhelmed by having to restart over and over again while experienced players can seek the challenge AND get a reward for it while also intensivising getting better at the game.

thanks for ideas guys. i could do these when but i would have to learn some better lua skills. im sure i'll get the hang of it someday.
