By the way, if you are one of the people who argue that having lifes makes the player more careful:
How about rewarding the player for beating a level without deaths instead? This way a new player won't be overwhelmed by having to restart over and over again while experienced players can seek the challenge AND get a reward for it while also intensivising getting better at the game.
