Alright so all but one rank has been revealed which will be at 10,000 posts. Picking up from the Inclusivity Suggestions thread, it would be best to replace the rank set we have in the meantime. A couple have already been replaced (Kamikaze Koopa, Pokey, and Mega Mole) with smaller and static ranks. The ranks we have now would be completely different with all of them being icon size and static like proper ranks instead of full size animated sprites. This will have the benefit of being less distracting, a significant reduction in bloated post size, and of course getting rid of unnecessary movement for people with vestibular disorders.

Those will be the actual sizes. Please leave any thoughts/suggestions here.

There was the other possibility of removing ranks but due to them being a staple on these forums and just being a cute addition altogether, we decided to go this way in order to decrease the height of icons.
From my end, I personally wanted to see Beta 4's new NPCs being added to the roster in order to spice it all up.

if I'm honest I think incomplete sprites cut at the head look awkward. Also the new Pokey is an SMB3 bush. Besides, there are 50 images but I don't there are this many ranks so far. Scrapping the 7 boss ranks and 7 people ranks, there are still 34 ranks remaining. The 10,000 posts rank is the 38th rank. One might also add powerup ranks instead of boss/people ranks.

I disagree with what Cedur said. The small icons are adorable.

Those ranks look pretty fine to me, there's some I see on there that are one of my favorite Mario enemies, like Torpedo Ted

We only included SMBX2 Beta 4 basegame NPCs.

Question. If the goal here is to make the forum more accessible for people with epilepsy (etc.), or those who just don't like oversized icons, would it not be simpler to create a new profile option, "show/hide user ranks"? It would be similar to the built-in show/hide avatars and signatures settings. That way people who like the old icons could keep seeing them.

If you want the new ones as well, it may be possible to add three radio buttons: "off", "static" (new/small) and "animated" (old/large).

It has been a couple of years since I did any phpBB style editing, but if memory serves, it should just be a matter of some if-else statements in the page generation code.

The current rank icons do have their own unique flair, and it'd be kind of sad to see them go.

Oh believe me, that would be the better thing to do but phpBB doesn't have the option for alternative rank sets or to disable them. I don't know of any extensions that accomplish this either.

Alright so the new post ranks are in. The admin ranks will be replaced soon.

Nice, the decapitated Birdo head is starting to grow on me a bit. I don't know if this had anything to do with the old ranks, but the pages are loading a little faster.

In my opinion, it's really cool that people in charge of the forum are adding new ranks. Apart from adding a refreshed look to our profiles, it also shows that the developers don't ignore forum members and try to surprise them with interesting updates.

After you said this, I got curious and decided to try writing one on a test phpBB installation. It definitely works. I don't know if you're still interested, but if you are just let me know and I can send along the details. It was basically some minor HTML changes in the style template.

Page load speed should barely be effected, but if it feels faster then I guess that's good lol.

Confirming this, the page load speed is very fast now. Before it was a bit slower probably because of all the moving gifs, but now it loads really fast.

Ok but why had the size to be decreased as well? The earlier small ranks (Goomba, Shyguy etc.) had a good size. This is so small that it's barely noticeable. (except for Fryguy, Wart, Reznor ... the other sprites should have their size as well)
