OK, someone made a similar thread a while ago on Knux's site before all the older threads got deleted, along with this one. The original thread was supposed to highlight the true purpose of the SMBX community and what it truly involves between members, including members who would truly be considered in the community.

So you may be wondering what this is about. Well, we all know that this is a gathering place for the SMBX community, or in other words, it's a gathering place for a group of many people who all revolve around their interest of playing SMBX. However, some new users appear to think that just because they are joining the forum, they are automatically entered into the community. This is wrong.

Contrary to popular belief, the SMBX "community" isn't all 945 members (at the time of writing) that are signed up on this forum. A lot of users have simply signed up and not posted anything, but rather to "ghost" the forum. The SMBX community isn't all about the idea of just posting in the forum, or the idea that someone's level is better than someone else's, or even playing other SMBX episodes and rating them; it also involves going to the IRC and making friends with other members registered on this forum, as well as participating in community activities such as official level contests, and to be a true member in the SMBX community does not just involve contacting them on the forum via PM, or even in the IRC. It also involves things such as registering their friend codes, playing Minecraft, Pokemon or DOTA for instance with other members of the forum, or even hanging out with them on non-SMBX related sites, or rather knowing the standards of the community, as well as their character, in consideration to the idea that some users have been on for longer than others. The SMBX "community" is rather an exclusive list of members on this forum that have followed most of these steps, and I would consider users such as Ragont, Knux, bossedit8 or Cloud to truly be in the community.

What are your thoughts on this? Which members would you truly consider to be in the SMBX "community"?

That's a rather narrow description. Users like Chad don't post out of the forums and he doesn't go on IRC - are you calling him not a true community person?

I just edited the OP so that it includes knowing members and the community as a whole, in consideration to being around for longer than other members.

Same here, but I would consider myself part of the community. I just like talking with my old friends from back in 2011. I don't think participating in contests is required to be part of the community.

I remember this topic on Knux's, and I don't really understand what the point in all this is. I feel that this idea of the "SMBX community" and who's in it and who's not is a lot more subjective than you seem to think. Like FOS said, Chad is definitely part of the community even if he doesn't go on IRC. People know him. They recognize his name, he was missed when he left the community during SMBX Revived, and so on.

Everyone's going to have a different idea of what being in the community means. I don't really understand what issue you're trying to solve here.

lol Cloud yesterday he said he isn't in anyway returning yet keeps going on the channel which makes him a good member.

F my only true friend here is still reghrhre since i don't seem to get any good contact with anyother here since i am just being a Dick mostly. Yeah i am not truly alright with this but i have been a dick to people since i was in school(if you readed my post there you know i only bullied others and only befriended myself with my girls).

So this might make me a complet other user of this "Community" idc if i get accepted from anyone since i don't really have to accept anyone either sooo yeah thats it i just stay there being a dick and harasser then.

Yeah, I agree with the others. Your description of a "true" community member is very restrictive and, frankly, a little bit elitist.

There's really no need to overcomplicate things. As far as I'm concerned, if you're active and posting, and contributing in any way whatsoever, you're part of the community. Stuff like IRC and friend codes shouldn't be required for you to be considered a legitimate member. I mean, I don't go on IRC because if I ever do go, I don't end up saying anything anyways and people don't talk about much that interests me. I'm not that social of a person. I don't have too many friend codes either because not too many people play the multiplayer titles I have very much. With the shutdown of Wii/DS Wi-Fi, my only real options are Mario Kart 7 and Mario Tennis Open.

Besides, the IRC isn't always a pleasant place, and the games people talk about don't appeal to me. It doesn't make me or anyone else in my position less of a member just because we're not in with those groups.

It doesn't sound like a community if you basically have to earn your membership into it. To me, if you're here, you're a part in the community.

Same here.

Being in a community isnt doing everything you said,if you know members and do stuff with them isnt being part of a community,that is having friends,being part of a community is different,its something i cant really explain.

Some users are more vocal than others, but everyone is part of the SMBX community.

We could go into detail about the social circles that exist in this community, and that would relate more to specific members that do things together.
