Naming a scrapyard-themed world

Postby BrokenAce » Sat Nov 28, 2020 8:33 pm

I didn't want to have to make a thread for this, but I'm having a big problem coming up with a name for the scrapyard-themed world of my SMBX project, which is going to be the first world of said project. I have literally been spending weeks and weeks trying to come up with a decent name.

Preferably, the world name should meet these criteria to avoid confusion with other already-established world names in my project (which I won't spoil):
  • must not begin with B, F, G, H, K, M, T, or V
  • must not end in an S or a Y
  • must not contain any word beginning with a C
  • must not contain any compound words
Again, I'm very sorry if this seems like a stupid thing to make a thread over, but I'm getting pretty desperate. Naming a scrapyard world is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do for a Mario project. Help/ideas would be appreciated.

Systematic Yielding?
Junkyard Peak?
Scrapyard Zone?
Scrapyard Hill?

(Really was thinking of Peaks/Hills, but that disobeys your second rule. I think I can think of a name beginning which of those characters though.)

Junkheap Village
Rubbish Mountain
Garbage Grassland
Scrapville
Plains of Discarded Stuff

There are some fun mix and matches you can do with these as well

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not sure if any of them will really fit proper (since I'm stupidly picky), but I'll take them into consideration.

Also, I do have one idea for a name; Oxide Isle. I feel like it sounds nice, but I'm worried it's too edgy and/or confusing, especially considering it's the first world and all the other worlds have relatively simple names (e.g. Muncher Park, Bone Canyon, etc).
Thoughts?

Leaning towards keeping it simple and calling it what players will ultimately refer to it as.
The Scrapyard.
(is scrapyard a compound word? and by extention, are junkheap, grassland, scrapville and junkyard also compound words?)

It would be easier to tell what you're going for if you could provide some reference names for other (perhaps imaginary) worlds that follow the same tone you're going for.

Because scrap brain is a laboratory theme world, not a "Junkyard" theme world. But good joke though! ^^"

How about Scrapstopian Land? ^^"

Well, like I said above, there are two other worlds which will be called Muncher Park and Bone Canyon, as well as several other worlds I haven't namedropped. They all follow a pattern of having a noun and then a location in their name, and are generally 3 syllables long, with the exception of the final world which has 4 syllables.

Also, if it helps, here's a screenshot from the first level, so you can get an idea of the world's general aesthetic:
Spoiler: show

The world map will most be an island or possibly a peninsula, rather than an in-land area, if that also helps.

"Trash Headland"
"Junk Depot"
"Fragment Cape"

If it helps, i recommend using a thesaurus and searching up synonyms for:
- scrap
- junkyard
- peninsula
- island

etc.

And then use a pair of words that sound interesting together.

Isle Quisquiliae
Scrappy Outcrop
Discard Island

Based on the other names, you could also go with something simpler like Trash Island. Ultimately, nobody can judge what you want better than you can.

He has reasons to not start with B, F, G, H, K, M, T, or V

How about this name for your scrapyard theme world, because why not use memes? :P

Domain of Danny Devito*

*If y'all were wondering, it's a meme that originated from the episode of "It's Always Sunny" where Danny's character decides to be a wrestler called "The Trash Man", or something.... I never watch the show tbh
