Holiday Themes

This might be more fit as a continuation of the Let's get an official event organizer team! thread but I think it deserves its own thread seeing as it might be considered by such a team in the future, and if not then considered by the staff itself.

If you've been to other forums, be it gaming-oriented or not, you should've realized that those forums do quite a lot to keep things spicy over there. One of the many things they do is have special themes that are either selected or triggered by date on celebratory events such as Halloween or Christmas. I heard from Mech that this forum did have a special theme for Easter, although I haven't seen it for myself I heard it didn't look good, but then again tastes are subjective and I can't really judge something I haven't seen for myself.

I'm not really suggesting something out of this world either, let's take Halloween for example. For the main index page, we could have an orange sizeable instead of a sky-blue one, a night sky with a full moon, and some jack-o-lanterns at the bottom of the page. For the icons, we could have variations such as the ones made by Flying Brick.

There are a couple of these I would actually like to see here, and I'm sure many others would welcome such a feature for sure. Like the previously mentioned Halloween, Christmas, Valentine, and other crazy ones if anyone's willing to put hard work into it.

I realize this is not necessary, but I feel like a flare like this would make users feel like they are part of something bigger.

Super Mario World Central has themes for Ranks as well as themes for Contests such as VLDCX. I would love it if someone could do this though.

There was a downloadable pack containing the default theme. I can't access it since the link is down (and I must've deleted my local copy at some point). But the idea was that you'd make a custom theme, send it back to the staff, they review it and then implement it. Doesn't seem like any themes were fully built, which was a shame.

Also, 2 and a half years later and this has yet to occur:

And lastly: I said we already have all the major themes done. Then why aren't they selectable in board preferences? Because they're not implemented yet. Only the webmaster can do that

You're very right. This theme is 10 years old and it hasn't changed since. I could also make it but uhh... I don't know if I should take the responsability or not.

Red Yoshi and I made several holiday themes way back when, but afaik the problem was with the implementation. There were board updates and what not, Joey resigned, then Kley resigned, I don't know if Quill is able to implement forum themes, but if you ask real nicely I'm sure he'll look into it.

Edit: I just looked through some old logs again and turns out neither RY nor I ever did a Winter Holiday theme! If Quill gives the OK on theme implementation and you're interested in making one, DM me and I'll provide you with the other themes for cross-reference.

First things first though, could we get the pre-existing "major themes" implemented? Acts as a proof that custom themes work (and wouldn't glitch out), but could also be used for inspiration and above all, the more default themes, the better

Are these major themes like SMW, SMB2, SMB1?

Yes, they are. I heard that those themes' graphics were done and all that was left to do was implement them on the forums. I am currently working on a Halloween theme but if there's no confirmation that it's gonna be a thing when these themes have been waiting in line for years there's no point in doing this now is there? I know this comes out as annoying and demanding but these are facts that I feel I have to point out.
