Be ready to explore the nostalgic Mario flash game to ever be remade, called Super Mario Star Scramble!
This flash game has now been remade right into Super Mario Bros. X!

Bowser is at it again, he's been taking all the Power Stars and Shines at the Mushroom Kingdom and has scattered them at all the levels. So Mario has to show his heroic actions to save the Mushroom Kingdom and collect all Shines along with the Power Stars and stop Bowser from scattering all of them, and also restore the peace at the Mushroom Kingdom!

Differences from the Original
- Part of the level design of the original has been slightly revamped
- Power Stars are also added as collectables in the game, you have to collect the Shines first to get them
- An extra level has been added, both this level and Level 10 needs 9 stars to play the level, so if you want to play either those levels, you're choice!

This remake took me 2 days to finish, I really wanted to remake this good ol' Mario flash game into SMBX to bring back the childhood, if people played the original Super Mario Star Scramble back then. Since flash is ending at the end of 2020, that's when I decided to remake Super Mario Star Scramble.

The credits also goes to Kenney Vleugels for the original Super Mario Star Scramble game and Nintendo for the copyright based materials and characters.

(This game is only compatible for SMBX2 B4)

I REALLY MISS THE ORIGINAL.
Idea: Why don't you add way more extra levels.

At first I thought it's amazing that you did 10 levels in just 2 days. Then I realized that this also took just about 15 minutes to play. It's really a kid's game. Also why do I not see any timers like in the screenshots?
And how do I reach the extra level? I saw one invisible block, but then?

Back in my 2018 days I used to play this all the time. I don't mean the remake. But then in 2019 I played it not that much and now in 2020 I don't play SMSS anymore

The original game is basically a "kids game" as well? So the remake is kinda supposed to be the same too, but I wanted it's levels to be more playable so that's why I added an extra self made level. The timer that was seen in the screenshots aren't meant to be seen in the game itself since it was a bug from the other episode I was playing. Lastly, there is another invisible block to get up to the extra level, it's actually between the walls and below the ground right where it's close from the 1st invisible block.

That's what I was saying, yes. I played many primitive Mario flash games on gaming sites, but they were better and longer than this.

Also I found that invisible block in the meanwhile and I couldn't have guessed it (lol), you really need a duck-jump to the right.

This was meant to be the way to get to the extra level lol

I'm just shocked this game was remade, but it might be better than the original.

Shocked to see that no credit is given to the original's creator (I think it's Kenney Vleugels?) in the thread. Is credit to the original creator at least given within the game? I think that's the least you could do after copying all their level designs and concepts.

Well I didn't know who was the creator of this game since the original is seen in all flash sites and didn't see the original creator. But if that's the creator of the original, I'll be sure to credit him now.

I know this old flash game where you collect stars in each level. And finally, at least someone decided to make a remake of this masterpiece in SMBX! Keep it up dude

As somebody currently working on a few Mario flash remakes right now, it warms my heart to see somebody else care enough to make a remake of one of them.

Now for my thoughts on the actual game. It's a solid remake. Y'know, I really liked the original and it's sequels back when I was a youngun, I thought it's level progression was pretty unique back then. I appreciate how it stays close to the original but not 100%. The biggest improvements to me are the visuals. The original was unspectacular visuals-wise, but you chose the right custom graphics for this. I thought this remake looked pretty damn good. The waterfalls, in particular, went a long way to making it more appealing. Not sure if this was the intention, but made the game look and feel like I was in a tropical paradise, definitely an interesting look.

Speaking of which, the hub's a small improvement. Nothing fancy, but it's a bit more interesting to look at and traverse, and the Mushroom pipe was a helpful aid. (Though maybe make the secret level easier to reach? I had to read the replies here to even find out there were invisible blocks). And the secret level was a great little touch. I was gonna say SMBX's mechanics made this remake a bit too easy, but that level shut me up. It wasn't that hard but I spent a bit of time on it, it was a pretty appropriate challenge. (But I did softlock myself once or twice. If you use a trampoline to bust through the Rotating blocks as Small Mario and don't make it down fast enough, you're stuck and you have to reset the game.)

Even if the original wasn't much, this is a great remake and it does what a remake should, it added a bit of polish to the lacking parts and added a few neat extras while still staying faithful to the original, I'd definitely call this the best version of the game. All in all, short and sweet, it was a pretty fun 15 minutes. Wonder if you have any plans to do one of the sequels. I'd be interested in seeing your take on them.

(Side note: I saw you put some Luigi sprites inside the episode folder to match the Mario sprites, even if they're currently unused. Was Luigi supposed to be playable here, or did you change your mind last minute (or forgot to uncheck his name in the .wld file)? Just asking because an extra playable would have been a great new addition).
