Increment star counter when level is beaten

As title. I would like to track how many levels or which levels the player has beaten, but I do not want to use the Power Star exit method. I don't want to use the collectible Power Star either for visual reasons.

Is there a way to increment the Star Counter when the level is beaten and mark the level as beaten? Thanks for your help.
