Is Nintendo 3DS dead?

Postby MustardCake » Fri Mar 13, 2020 3:06 pm

So a few months ago i went to the store in search for another 3DS game cause i only have a 3DS at home for now, and i didn't find many games for it.
There we're more games for the Nintendo Switch, which i don't have right now because i don't have enough money.
I also didn't hear anything about the 3DS for a long time, so is Nintendo 3DS actually dead?

I think handheld consoles are generally on the retreat due to smartphones and tablets.

The Switch Lite has killed off the 3DS.

I don't think common mobile devices were designed for someone to switch between cartridges of high quailty games on the go. There's a good reason to have separate buttons for specific games; you can't do everything with just a touch screen. And there may be something in a Nintendo console that nobody else thought of trying yet, be it home or handheld.

Nintendo has its place in the gaming market, and I see no reason to believe it would abandon handheld (or home console) gaming any time soon.

In my opinion, there's 2 definitions of "dead" when it comes to consoles. The first meaning is basically that the console has ended support, and no more games will come out for it. For example, the last game for the 3ds was Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn, which means that the 3ds ended support after that game came out. Then, there's the second meaning, where the console isn't talked about anymore, or just way less popular. For example, the Wii fits the criteria of meaning 1 (if hacks aren't counted), but not the criteria of meaning 2.

The 3ds in general is dead but the homebrew community with it is fairly active. Right now it’s a great time to mod a 3ds.

I still own mine, It is great once you mod it with CFW, as you can emulate SNES games and other things.

These are pretty old news now, but Nintendo has discontinued the Nintendo 3DS so that kinda makes it officially dead.

I mean that’s kinda a thing for any console after any company released something new.
